HBO GO update adds "binge mode," saves last watched position, and more

The HBO GO app for Android and Android TV has been updated with some long-awaited features.

The HBO GO app is kind of a necessary evil. It has no alternative (which will have no doubt helped it achieve its 10-50 million downloads) and it’s lagging behind similar services in terms of features and usability. Thankfully, the most recent HBO update delivers some of the functionality it was sorely missing.

First off, there is an immediate visual change in HBO GO app for Android and Android TV with regards to the new and improved landing page. This is now better looking and easier to navigate than the last iteration. Further, a “binge mode” has been added so that you can watch episodes of your favorite shows one after another without needing to select the next episode manually.

Better yet, the app will now — for the first time — save your position in a TV show or movie, meaning you can stop watching and then pick up exactly where you left off later. That’s pretty common in media streaming services, and has been for years, so it’s good to see it finally make an appearance here.

Finally, the update addresses some miscellaneous bug fixes.

The improvements have already rolled out the HBO app in the Play Store and you can download the latest version via the link below (HBO subscription required).
