HBO “exploring” Chromecast support for HBO Go

HBO has coyly acknowledged that it’s interested in Google’s newly announced content-streaming $35 dongle, the Chromecast (our review here), which could be used to stream HBO Go shows to subscribers.

Talking to Variety, an HBO rep confirmed as much, without actually providing any useful information for current HBO Go users that would like to use the app together with the Chromecast. Here’s what HBO representative Laura Young said in an email to the publication:

[quote qtext=”We are actively exploring supporting Chromecast as another way for our subscribers to enjoy HBO Go, but at this point we can’t comment on specific plans regarding timing.” qperson=”” qsource=”” qposition=”center”]

Only a few days ago it was discovered that certain apps may already be in the works for the Chromecast, HBO Go included, after a previous report suggested that HBO Go support may be tested for Google’s new device. While today’s confirmation isn’t that exciting, as it doesn’t reveal any release dates for such an HBO Go app update, we can safely speculate that HBO won’t be happy to let Chromecast users only stream Netflix shows and will add Chromecast support to its app in a future update.

That said, there are plenty of things that can be done on a Chromecast that you may not be aware of, so in addition to our review check out our tips and tricks video above!

Well, now it would just be nice if they’d support the new Nexus 7 first.

Yeah be nice if they work on Nexus 7/Android 4.3 support first

Get Jellybean 4.3 support… then worry about Chromecast. I don’t need it to run directly on chromecast since I can cast it from my PC anyway. The fact that it doesn’t work on my Nexus 7 since 4.3 is really annoying.
