Hacked RC30 G1 firmware with telnetd and su root access surfaces

Hacked RC30 G1 firmware with telnetd and su root access surfaces

It didn’t take long for cooked G1 firmware images to start showing up on XDA-Developers.  If you have not yet updated your phone to RC30 firmware, you can, in theory, install this modified firmware to get not only the RC19/RC29 telnetd root hack, but also an honest to goodness setuid su command for easy root access from a terminal window.

If you’re G1 is already at RC30, then you are out of luck until another root exploit is discovered.

This hacked firmware contains not only the modified RC30 firmware, but also a modified recovery image that will prevent a future OTA update from taking back your root access.

This all sounds like fun stuff, but things can easily go wrong when you start messing with hacked firmwares.  Exercise caution, but let us know how it works out for you if you try it.
