According to the New York Times, Google CEO Eric Schmidt was recently at a party in Los Angeles talking about a new Google Android-powered tablet that is meant to compete with the iPad and similar devices that are set to hit the market soon.

The Times quotes a few sources that wish to remain unnamed that have told it that Google has already been working with several publishers concerning book and magazine distribution on the device.

The Times also mentions that HP is working on an Android device with a 6-inch display that it refers to as the “half-pint”.
