The opening keynote of Google I/O is underway (follow our live blog and stream) and one of the first topics in the Android section is the name of Android N. As with every year, coming up with a dessert-themed name for the new release is a challenge for Google – at least according to Vice President for Engineering, Dave Burke – and this year, Google wants you to help name the new platform.

This year, you can head over to Google’s Android N naming page to enter your suggestion but as Burke put it, Google wants you to keep the names clean. So some of the more obvious ones are out and, in a polite dig to British humour, they’ve also requested that you don’t call it ‘Namey McNameFace’.

So what could Android N be called? Here’s a few suggestions:

  • Nougat
  • Nutter Butter
  • Nestle (they worked with Google on KitKat after all)

For more on what else to expect from Android N, stay tuned to our live blog and be sure to check out our in-depth Android N hands on! What else can you think of and what do you think it should be called? Let us know in the comments below and head over to Android.com/N to submit your name now!
