There are planes and trains in today’s Google Search for Android update
An update to Google Search for Android is rolling out tonight. While the update began rolling out early on Tuesday, we expect it may take well into the typical ‘update Wednesday’ before it reaches most devices.
This update to Google Search brings with it some new features for Google Now – train and bus reminders from reservations in your Gmail, and changes to your flight information cards. And bug fixes too, of course.
The flight card update is interesting and very handy. In the event your flight is delayed or, presumably, cancelled, Google Now will get you information for alternative arrangements to help you get to your location. If that doesn’t work out so well, be sure to use the new contextually aware Maps feature to find yourself a hotel and restaurant for the night.
Despite the train and bus reminders being extremely useful for many users, there is little exciting to say about it here. If you’ve got a reservation email stashed away in your Gmail, Google Now will produce the appropriate reminders and updates as you might experience from a flight reservation. Easing the travel process is always a good thing.
As mentioned, the Google Search update began rolling out early Tuesday, so we suspect it will get around to each and every one of us soon enough. Head on into the Google Play Store on your device to check your My Apps for the update.
What do you say, is suggesting alternatives when a flight is delayed a good thing?
