Google now shipping pre-orderered 8GB Nexus 7 in Canada

When Google introduced the Nexus 7 tablet, Canadian folks were more than happy to find out that their country will be one of the few to be prioritized by Google for the initial launch of the Tegra 3-powered device, along with the U.S., UK and Australia. After weeks of waiting and anticipating, those who pre-ordered the Nexus 7 straight from Google have now received shipping confirmation of the tablet.

Aside from the influx of reports from customers who are now eagerly waiting for the Jelly Bean tablet to arrive at their doorsteps, the good news was shared by Google itself on its support forum, which provided the following statement:  “We’re now shipping Nexus 7 preorders. All US and Australia preorders are scheduled to ship by July 17th. UK and Canada preorders have also begun shipping in waves.”

Despite the assurance, it seems the shipping confirmation was only sent out to those who plunked down some money in advance for the 8GB model of the Nexus 7. Customers who chose the more expensive 16GB model are still deprive of their confirmation email.

So we now turn our attention to our readers in Canada. Have you received any confirmation of when you’ll be getting your Nexus 7? Did you opt for the 8GB or 16GB model? How about folks in other countries, any sign yet of the tablet?

      Sam boat as you, this is ridiculous isn’t it?… I am extra mad because of the $20 in shipping they charged us… I am hoping they make it up to us with extra google play credit or a free case *cross-fingers*

        Same boat too, bought it as soon as I was able to pre order the 16 gig (sometime in late june probably 27th aswell). as for that last part you said…. no, and no (but I wish, if only we lived in a perfect world eh?)

        But I’m willing to wait just would like to be informed more on when its shipped and how long I need to wait I mean it says TWO day shipping that I was FORCED to pay for and at first I thought it would ship on Friday and I thought to myself man that is evil… won’t get it till earliest Monday or Tuesday. My point is if I pay for two day shipping I’d like to know when it ships so that at least I get what I paid for lol..

    No communication for any request is not the best way to keep customers interested in Google products, however good the product is.
    I ordered 16 Gb Nexus 7 on 1 July (Google Canada Store) and requested a status update by email on 10 July. No communication whatsoever

  • Ordered 16G on the 5th. No communication at all from Google Play.

    Since the Nexus 7 is competing directly with the Kindle Fire, I have to wonder … would Amazon allow this low quality customer support. Never.

    Stupid way to treat not only your customers in general, but people who are hard at work developing apps for the Android ecosystem. It’s amateur hour at Google Play.

    Ordered on June 27, no confirmation. Went out last night and bought one from a store nearby. The build was very shotty. The whole left side of the screen was coming up over the bezel and the device would click and creak when I tapped it. This was only on the left side. I returned it at the store today where the manager said this was a known issue! Hope I don’t get one with this problem again, or any other problem. Btw it was a 16gb that I ordered on the 27th and also the one I returned today.

    Order a 16GB unit on June 28th. Nothing yet. However I have to reply to-

    “would Amazon allow this low quality customer support”

    When you pre-ordered Google promised that shipping would occur within 2 – 3 weeks. So they have three more days to meet their original promise. No one really has any complaint until this week leaves us behind.

    • A simple email blast … ‘we’re working hard to get you your order as quickly as possible.’ would suffice. Customer support 101. Amazon anticipates and communicates with its customers better than anyone else out there. Always a good idea to watch the competition, and Google Play isn’t paying attention, imho.

      • When you are concerned about the ship date even with a “defined release date”, Amazon responds, figures out where the problem is. Bumps you up to overnight shipping. Does refund or replace item if package got lost…

        Google… none of the above. Doesn’t even reply to you.

    16gb on June 27th from Play Store….no word yet and definitely annoyed since the 18th is the 3 week cutoff and that isn’t looking likely. Hoping that the delay is Google cutting off shipments of faulty (bezel/glue) 16gb units?

    Ordered July 6th – 8 GB version and got confirmation e-mail at 9:36 that it has been shipped from Google Canada in Toronto! Early than expected and very pleased with google!

    Toronto. 8GB. Complained and asked for shipping refund yesterday evening. Got confirmation back this morning around 2AM. UPS Tracking Status:
    A UPS shipping label has been created. Once the shipment arrives at our facility, the tracking status–including the scheduled delivery date–will be updated.

    I ordered the 16GB on June 28. I talked to a Google Canada representative yesterday. He assured me that my tablet is in the hands of UPS and I should be getting tracking information from Google on Wednesday for delivery by Friday.

  • For those anxiously awaiting confirmation, the first thing you will notice is an update to the “date” value on the Google Play Orders page. That means that they have charged your card. I got the email about 12 hours after that happened.

Google sucks, and now that i’m hearing about a defect with the 16 gig, screw this I’m cancelling

    I orded 16GB, July 12th. No word, thought it looks like my credit card may have been charged (There’s no Play Store item marked in my transaction history yet, but it shows that the cost of the tablet has been subtracted from my “available balance”)

    • Same here. I ordered a 16GB model on July 1 from Canada. My available credit card balance dropped on July 20 but the transaction hasn’t been posted. Otherwise there is no evidence that it has shipped. No emails, no date changes nothing. Hoping for something on Monday.

      • I received my “It’s shipped” e-mail this morning (July 24). Louisville to Lexington to Cincinnati to Maumee where it remains. Supposed to be here Thursday. So much for the 2 day shipping I I really hope it’s one without the wonky screen.

    16gb 6th July. Just got off the phone from Google. They said that it was “in process” but that not UPS Tracking number had been issued yet, and that I should get one by Thursday latest.

    Also of note, the contact system on Google Wallet does not work and a customer rep rarely sees any questions you may send over be it a question or a change in shipping address(which was what I wanted to originally do)

    Communication def helps with all the confusion.

      Oh man, I should have done that. I pre-ordered thinking I’d get one early and the 25 dollar Google Play coupon, now it looks like it will be late and I think all orders regardless whether its coming from Staples or Google Play has the coupon already in the box.

    Ordered the 16g version on July 27th, tried to call google was put on hold for 1 hour before I had to hang up, sent 3 emails not a single reply to any emails.

  • Fantastic how useless Google has been with this release. I like how it seems there is a backorder for the 16GB model. Gee Google, really hard to know that would be the most popular version and to have got a good amount of them made, especially when they could see pre-orders for it the last 3 weeks. With any luck, I’ll still be waiting for mine (ordered July 2nd) mid next week and retail stores here will be carrying it. Nothing like paying 20 bucks on a BS shipping charge for a PRE-ORDERED ITEM and waiting longer than people being able to walk into a store and get it.

    Never again will I order another product directly from Google.

    Got a shipping confirmation, but the UPS site says that only a label has been created, but it hasn’t arrived at their faculties yet. Maybe Google is trying to create these labels to somewhat stem the criticisms?

  • Just got an email from Google Play stating that if you ordered before July 11, it would ship this week with a shipping upgrade to overnight. (I ordered July 5, 16gb).

    A simple email update, that’s all it takes and most people are happy.

    When I go to Google play store, 8GB is listed in stock and delivered in 3-5 days, 16GB is shipping soon: 1-2 weeks. I ordered 16G on July 3rd. Huge disappointment. Especially that NCIX and Staples customers are already receiving theirs. And to add insult to injury, their orders are with free shipping.
    Google, strike two! (first one was when my company moved from Microsoft to Google for Business… OMG, what a mistake)

        Yes, I discovered that yesterday – – the 2 day shipping was a lie. I called them to ask why mine is arriving after a week and they blamed Canadian customs.

          While I was waiting in the dark for Google to ship me my tablet, I find them online with Staples. Free shipping, 1 day delivery and I was able to apply $20 coupon. Savings of $40 over Google. Got it that way. Tried to cancel Google, but couldn’t. My Google shipment arrived two days later, so I declined it and returned to sender. Now I have to verify that Google will refund it all (shipping included).

I really don’t know what is the point of pre ordering if they do not have enough stock. ( thought they shouldn’t charge my credit card until the product is shipped)

    Frustrated. I am from Vancouver, ordered my 16GB last June 27 and finally got my confirmation email yesterday (July 19). I am supposed to be happy thinking that I’ll get it in 2 days (I paid $19 for a UPS 2-day shipping). When I tracked the package, the tracking details indicated I would get my package on July 26. After waiting to speak to a representative from Google Play for almost an hour, the representative confirmed that those in Canada who ordered the 16 GB with a 2 day shipping window will get theirs delivered after a week instead because of Canadian border delays. No refunds for shipping.

    I am a loyal Android / Google fan but I am very frustrated with this very, very bad customer service. First, the delay. Next, the 2 day shipping misrepresentation to those living in Canada.
