    Google Nexus

The good news is that the Samsung Nexus 10 and LG Nexus 4 have arrived today. The bad news is that these new Google Nexus devices were pretty much were gone before they even arrived.

Internationally, the Google Nexus 4 and Nexus 10 are sold out in all the markets they debuted in today. Not only did they sell out, they were gone within just a few short hours after going on sale. What about in the U.S. market? In the United States, the Nexus 4 was online for about a half hour before the stock for 8GB and 16GB models both dried up. The Nexus 10 32GB model also sold out about an hour or so after the Nexus 4. At the time of this writing, all the expanded Nexus 7 models and the Nexus 10 16GB are still for sale, though.

So what happened here? More than likely, Google had used past trends from launches of the Nexus 7, Galaxy Nexus and the rest of the Nexus line in order to estimate demand for the Nexus 4 and Nexus 10. While we don’t know how many units they prepared for this launch, clearly the extremely low pricing and quality designs for the newest Nexus line-up generated more interest for first day purchases than Google expected.

To add insult to injury, it seems that having such short stock was only part of the problem, the Google Play store checkout system was also experiencing some pretty big issues. According to reports across the net, many potential Nexus customers tried in vain to get the site to let them order their devices, even before the Nexus 4 and Nexus 10 were listed as sold out. Likely due to extreme server overload, many customers were greeted with errors saying their payment method couldn’t be charged and other similar issues.

So how long will you have to wait for another chance to grab the new Nexus smartphone and tablet? More than likely the Nexus 4 and Nexus 10 will both be back later this week, though who knows for how long. We’ll keep you informed as we learn more. For now, the Nexus 4 and 32GB Nexus 10 order page simply says the devices are “coming soon”.

Were you able to snag an LG Nexus 4 or Samsung Nexus 10 today, or are you one of the many consumers left agitated by the lack of units available for order?

I’m fucking agitated, they pretty much outright said “we are going to try to get tons of people to buy it with the super cheap price, but we won’t have stock for anyone to buy it.”

I felt it was extremely obvious, and it is silly that they were not prepared

      • captainham

Did I mention I got one?

shows Google’s lack of experience at selling a physical product. Cock ups like this should be almost unforgivable.

Hope they get them in stock soon otherwise i will have to spend ages making up my mind again !

The 32GB Nexus 10 was sold out before I woke up at 8:30. I wasn’t prepared to have a 16GB version.

    • J

I signed up to recieve an email notification when it became available. I didn’t even get that. Not to mention I had been checking the site consistently through the day and it still said “coming soon”.

#FAIL on Google with their Nexus launch. How exactly could they not have sufficient stock on hand? Why even bother with a N10 16GB variant, make the 32GB version $479 or 459 and with the increased memory they would get a lower price. The 16GB versions will be discounted as they won’t move.

When do we get to hear the #’s, and why can’t we pre-order with a 2-3 week ship time like Apple does? Google just doesn’t get retail at all and hasn’t since the first Nexus device.

Refreshed the page about 15 times before the site showed me the option to buy it (that it was in stock). Ran into basket errors upon attempting to buy…went back to the main Nexus 4 page to see the “Notify me” button again…

Repeated the *entire* process above about 10 times before it processed things correctly and actually let me check out. The sales receipt confirmation now sits in my Gmail Inbox. =)

This is exactly what Google wanted, it’s nothing to do with lack of experience. They want people to sought after their devices much like people do with iPads. Good marketing technique if you ask me.

It’s apparent that many buyers ened up unwittingly ordering several devices when they wanted only one. This also meant there were less available for those who wanted one on release day, like me. Pissed off @ #nexusfail .

Hurricane sandy already delayed the Selling date for two weeks. Wth , we are going to wait for more ages to get it. Sold out!? google became a coward. Can’t believe it was a biggest Internet company
