Hotspot: Google Maps for Android

Hotspot: Google Maps for Android

I have just finished playing with Hotpot on both my desktop and my Android device. Google have released this recommendation service catering for restaurants and local attractions alike. Clearly taking a swipe at Yelp’s market share, Google hope that by making this application integrated into their social network, that you will be suggested things you are likely to enjoy by virtue of your friends interests.Google describe this service in much the same way,

“A local recommendation engine powered by you and your friends. With Hotpot, we’re making local search results for places on Google more personal, relevant and trustworthy. There are three main ingredients in the Hotpot recipe: Google Places, the Places you like and the Places your friends like”

If you’re interested to give it ago, you will need to upgrade your version of Google maps to 4.7. Once you have it installed, I suggest putting the ‘rate places’ widget on your desktop and from there you can rate the place where you are very easily. Read more about it at the official blog post.
