I know, I know – fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me, right? But it looks like Google Home is really getting Bluetooth pairing support this time.

(Update: Officially announced) Google Home’s calling feature might be coming soon

Google’s been such a tease with Google Home’s Bluetooth pairing functionality: we all knew that the search giant’s AI-powered speakers came with a Bluetooth chip from the beginning and that it was only a matter of time before the company enabled that connectivity feature via a software update. We saw a glimpse of that update back in July when select users got it by accident, which was promptly disabled by Google. Well, it looks like Bluetooth pairing has started rolling out to Google Home devices for real this time.

According to some users, firmware version 93937 brings an option under Device settings to pair your Google Home with other Bluetooth-supported devices. Whether or not you are enrolled in Google’s recently announced Preview Program for Google Home shouldn’t matter. Although Google Home already supports major music streaming services as well as certain music players that allow casting, Bluetooth support is great for those of us who have a lot of local files.

The new firmware update should be rolling out in waves, so be patient if your device doesn’t have it yet. However, as Android Police points out, some Google Home owners who have already received the update report audio lags and muffled voices, which indicates that this may not be a finalized version, or it may just be a stock Android problem – something that’s been an issue for a while.
