A report from French publication Test Mobile claims that Google will not have an Android booth at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in 2013. Google France confirmed this, but said the Android team would still be at MWC to support its partners.
Test Mobile points out that Google has not launched their MWC 2013 website this year as they had for MWC in 2012. Google has not even put up a countdown for MWC as they usually do on their official Android website. Test Mobile contacted Google France to figure out why we haven’t seen any of this yet. They received the following response.
“I can confirm that indeed, Sonia, we will not stand at MWC this year. However, the Android team will be present in Barcelona to support its partners.
Google not having an Android booth at MWC this year isn’t all bad news. The Mountain View based company is gearing up for Google I/O in 2013, which is going to be pretty big. Especially when you consider all of the leaks we’ve seen.
We’ve seen a Android timeline graphic that leads us to believe Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie will be announced. Rumors are also saying that we may see a new Nexus 7 and a larger Nexus 4, presumably called the Nexus 5. So while Google may not do anything spectacular at MWC, Google I/O is gearing up to be a blast.
Keep in mind that Google France has confirmed that there will be no Android booth at MWC, not Google itself. So will the search giant have a booth at MWC this year? It’s still possible, as the company still has a bit of time to post their usual countdown and put up the yearly Android MWC website. If there is no Android booth at MWC expect to see some big things at Google I/O.
