Google: Android 2.1 Eclair OS being used by 55% of users

Today Google has provided data about the relative number of active devices running the various versions of the Android platform. The results show that the Android 2.1 (Eclair) operating system is the most widely used at 55.5%.  The full table is below:

  • Android 1.5 – 18.9%
  • Android 1.6 – 22.1%
  • Android 2.1 – 55.5%
  • Android 2.2 -  3.3%

Most of today’s biggest selling smartphones like Sprint’s EVO 4G, Verizon’s Motorola DROID and DROID X, and the newly launched AT&T Captivate and T-Mobile Vibrant Galaxy S all run Android 2.1. The study was from data collected during two weeks ending on July 15, 2010.
