got-ascent

In partnership with HBO, Disruptor Beam and Kongregrate are bringing the previously iOS and browser-based game, Game of Thrones: Ascent, over to Google Play. For those who haven’t heard of Ascent, no the game isn’t a heavy-action sort of game as you might expect, instead it is essentially a modern take on a text-based adventure game with plenty of detail and reading involved.

Basically you create a new character who runs their own house and has pledged to one of the major players of the fictional realm. From there you can gain power and wealth by a variety of means including stretching your military muscle, trading and the list goes on. At the heart of it, Ascent is very much a social game, and so it should be no surprise to hear that there’s a “power rating” point system complete with leaderboards and more.

You also won’t be too shocked to hear that this is a free-to-play game that requires real-world money if you want to get past some annoyances like action timers or are looking to purchase in-game currency with your hard-earned RL dollars. Whether or not the free-to-play element is a deal-breaker probably depends on what kind of gamer you are, but just be aware that in-app purchases are very much part of the experience, though you can probably get around them with a little patience.

To check out the game yourself, you’ll want to head on over to Google Play.
