The Samsung Galaxy Tab P1000 is one of Samsung’s first devices on the tablet market scene. Since its inception, the device had met positive reviews from consumers and critics alike. Armed with a 1 GHz processor and 7.0 inch touchscreen, the Galaxy Tab is one mean machine for everyday use.

For Galaxy Tab owners who felt that their tablet is getting sluggish by the day, then you might want to try rooting your device. Rooting can be a daunting task to many consumers, most especially to people who are just getting to know the Android OS. But, once you gain root access on your device, the possibilities are endless. For starters, rooting can enable you to install custom scripts or even overclock your device to make it faster. Needless to say, the Galaxy Tab can greatly benefit from such modifications.

Luckily for us, developers have already made it possible to root the Galaxy Tab painlessly using one-click methods. In fact, we feature three methods in this post: DooMLoRD’s Easy Rooting Toolkit 4.0, z4root method, and SuperOneClick 2.3.3 method.

This guide shows you how to root the original Samsung Galaxy Tab GT-P1000.

Warning

  • The instructions in this guide are intended for use with the Samsung Galaxy Tab, model number GT-P1000. Applying these instructions on another device or model may produce undesired outcomes.
  • The information in this guide is provided for instructional and educational purposes only. There is no guarantee that these instructions will work under your specific and unique circumstances.
  • Use these instructions at your own risk. Rooting your device may void your warranty. We shall not hold any responsibility or liability for whatever happens to you or your device arising from your use of the info in this guide.
  • Read and understand the whole guide first before actually performing the instructions.

Requirements

  • Samsung Galaxy Tab GT-P1000
  • Samsung Kies installed on your PC. This is necessary as it will automatically install most Samsung USB drivers.
  • Enable USB debugging mode on your tablet. You can do this by heading to Settings > Application > Development > USB Debugging. Make sure that there is a check mark beside that option.
  • Backup all personal data on your tablet to make sure you have a copy of your personal data (e.g., contacts, SMS, MMS, Internet settings, Wi-Fi passwords, and the like) in case the procedure in this guide erases such data.

Instructions

DooMLoRD’s Easy Rooting Toolkit 4.0

NOTE: This method has been reported to work on the Galaxy Tab GT-P1000 running Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread.  You'll need a Windows PC for this method.

  1. Make sure you have the USB drivers for your tablet installed on your PC.  If you have Samsung KIES, you most likely have the drivers.  If not, download and install the USB drivers for the GT-P1000 (SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_Galaxy_Tab_GT-P1000_x86.exe, 18.5 MB).
  2. On your tablet, go to Settings > Applications > Development and enable USB debugging.
  3. Go to Settings > Applications and enable Unknown sources.
  4. Download DooMLoRD’s Easy Rooting Toolkit 4.0 (DooMLoRD_v4_ROOT-zergRush-busybox-su.zip, 1.8 MB) to your computer.
  5. Extract the contents of the ZIP file into a folder on your computer.
  6. Disable Samsung KIES (if it's installed on your PC) and security suites (e.g., firewalls, antivirus).
  7. Connect your tablet to your PC using a USB cable.
  8. Find runme.bat among the extracted files.
  9. Double-click on runme.bat.
  10. Follow the instructions on the screen.
  11. When the procedure finishes, the rooting tool will have rooted your device, installed BusyBox, installed the su binaries, and installed the Superuser app.

z4root Method

NOTE: This method has been reported to work on the Galaxy Tab GT-P1000 running Android 2.2 Froyo, although some users running Android 2.3 Gingerbread have also reported varying levels of success.

  1. On your tablet, go to Settings > Applications and enable Unknown sources.
  2. Download the z4root app (z4root.1.3.0.apk, 955.5 kB) to your tablet.
  3. Install the z4root app on your tablet.    You'll need a file manager app to be able to install the APK file.  Try ASTRO File Manager or ES File Explorer, both of which are available from the Google Play Store.
  4. Launch the z4root app.
  5. Tap the Permanent Root button.
  6. After the app has finished rooting the tablet, it will also install su binaries and BusyBox.

SuperOneClick 2.3.3 Method

NOTE: This method has been reported to work on the Galaxy Tab GT-P1000 running Android 2.3 Gingerbread.  Some users on Android 2.2 Froyo have also reported success with using this method. You'll need a Windows PC for this method.

  1. If you're on Windows XP, install Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 or higher.
  3. On your tablet, go to Settings > Applications > Development and enable USB debugging.
  4. Disable Samsung KIES (if it's installed on your PC) and security suites (e.g., firewalls, antivirus).
  5. Download SuperOneClick 2.3.3 (SuperOneClickv2.3.3-ShortFuse.zip, 10.1 MB) and save it to your PC.
  6. Extract the contents of the ZIP file into a folder on your computer.
  7. Connect your Galaxy Tab to your PC via USB cable. Make sure that you don’t mount your SD card.
  8. Double-click SuperOneClick.exe to launch the program.
  9. Select the Root button to start rooting your tablet.
  10. Wait for a couple of minutes while the SuperOneClick application finishes rooting your tablet. It may take 5-10 minutes for it to successfully root your device.

Congratulations! You have successfully rooted your Samsung Galaxy Tab GT-P1000. Enjoy the many benefits of having a rooted device.

Paul and I.T. are synonyms. If you need help with I.T.-related stuff, call on Paul. His experience with Android phones goes way back to the ancient single-core-phone days. But, he keeps himself up to date, so now he has a dual-core beast in his pocket, and is looking forward to getting his first quad-core monster, and when it comes, his first eight-core phone. Perhaps he should be called Mr. X-Core, where "X" equals the number of CPU cores.

as far i remember there are 2 kinds of method to be done before u successfully upgraded ur tab it is aside from rooting and the kies.. .. if u done it wrong then sorry for the tab but u can also turn it back to its original by using some application try to search the two kind of method and download it all and also download the application to turn it back to its original if in case u mislead their instruction.. thats only a suggestion cause i mislead also at my first time to upgrade but now im successfully installed it and running perfectly just do what the instruction said… try to look other instruction if they are the same then do the instruction but if not just dont upgrade your tab.. be patience on searching because its ur tab anyway and its not cheap.

Hi I just bought my samsung galaxy GT-P1000 i received sms/mms but unable to make/receive calls and it is already rooted..Is there any setting that do i have to do? please help me

  • rooter

Android 2.2 Froyo. Tried to root with z4root, but the application terminated in the middle. Tried with SuperOneClick and it worked! Thanks.

  • rooter

One more note. After rooting, reboot your device. Install Root Checker (free) from the market and run the root check. If you do not reboot, the test will not complete or will fail.

Also, if you still want to try your luck with z4root on Froyo, make sure the phone is disconnected from the USB and then go to Settings > Applications > Development and enable USB debugging. Reboot after the application completes or crashes (in my case).

i have rooted my Galaxy pad GTP1000 with the [DooMLoRD’s Easy Rooting Toolkit 4.0] method, it works, however due to my own stupidity the pad has now a few software problems which require me to do a full wipe. i did the factory reset last night, and found out that the pad is still rooted? i wanna start everything fresh, so how can i unroot the pad if i rooted it with the DooMLoRD method?
