Galaxy Tab Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade scheduled for July and August, Galaxy Tab 10.1, 8.9, 7.7 and 7.0 Plus getting it

by: Chris SmithJune 20, 2012

Samsung Galaxy Tab owners will be thrilled to hear that the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade they’ve been waiting for so many months will start rolling out next month. The update will be available for various Galaxy Tab models, including the Galaxy Tab 10.1, 8.9, 7.7 and 7.0 Plus. In fact, here’s the complete list of Galaxy Tab tablet models that will get ICS:

  • GT-P6210 Galaxy Tab Plus 7.0 WIFI
  • GT-P6200 Galaxy Tab Plus 7.0 WIFI + 3G
  • GT-P6810 Galaxy Tab 7.7 WIFI
  • GT-P6800 Galaxy Tab 7.7 WIFI + 3G
  • GT-P7310 Galaxy Tab 8.9 WIFI
  • GT-P7300 Galaxy Tab 8.9 WIFI + 3G
  • GT-P7510 Galaxy Tab 10.1 WIFI
  • GT-P7500 Galaxy Tab 10.1 WIFI + 3G

While the ICS updates will start in July, Sam Mobile reports that most of them are planned for August, so some waiting is still in order. The news seems to be confirmed at this time by Samsung Canada, whose Galaxy Tab ICS upgrade schedule is also set for July and August.

In addition to all the Android 4.0 features you’re expecting to discover and enjoy on your Android tablet, the ICS update is supposed to bring various performance improvements to your Galaxy Tab’s battery and speed.

  • Jacob Markussen

Yay! This means camera for my CM9 :-D

    • Clayton Ljungberg

no doubt! I’ll have owned my Gtab 10.1 for a year once it gets ICS

  • its about friggin time, i hate this honeycomb mess semi-proud owner of a galaxy tab 7.7

  • Geez what the hell! I guess the carriers got their devices to the front of the line. It’s becoming clear where the holdup is.

I’m looking right at YOU, Samsung!

    • Vato_loco1

Wifi will get the update first reportedly….so looking back at YOU.

  • laz99

Finally! Getting the Galaxy Nexus with stock 4.0 was the worst thing I could have done after buying my GT 10.1. I’ve been spoiled by ICS!

So then after updation Tablet 10.1 3g from Android 3.2 to 4.0.3, could I make a voide call??? Pls help to know this.

  • Dave

I was SICK of honeycomb, it was TERRIBLE!!! I waited for months and months and heard nothing from them so I was like SCREW YOU SAMSUNG, Installed CM9 and as soon as they release the ICS the camera will work too so YEAA!

  • Jamester

Would ICS come with any significant improvement in WiFi authentication, esp on WPA2 Enterprise? Honeycomb is expecially flaky on a corporate WiFi network and wouldn’y connect most of the time. Thx!

    • rober34

I have the 10.1 with the unofficcial 4.0 and yes, wifi detection, passwords, etc, just like the whole of preferences menu, has been noticeabily finetuned and organized. You will like it.

      • alea

where did you get this? any pointers?

        • rober34

well just my personal experience, I see the pref menu tidier than honeycomb. I have many wifis, work, home, friends’, wpa/2psk, wep, open, etcetc and it works flawlessly. Also the pref menu is nicely organized. Install CM9 and you can see it for yourself, if you do a Nandroid backup you can switch back & forth between 4.0 and 3.2 in minutes, I do that.

By the way… I’ve been lazy enough to check if the update’s finally out. I assume, of course, it isnt. is it ??

  • Eh

Old news. Knew about this a month ago…

  • damilare

hello, i installed the update but i noticed my tablet 10.1 is not seeing my network provided even when i put the sim card inside my phone and there is network.. please help me

  • Timothy Braje

Now, we get to wait for Jelly Bean… :)

    • Ketacdx

Dont count on it…it took them this long for ICS, it’ll prolly be the last update the Tab will see…

      • WilliamKingX17

Don’t count on it? There is already ICS by AOKP and CM9 and they are pretty smooth just without camera functionality because of drivers. As soon as Samsung releases ICS we will get camera functionality back and will keep it into Jelly Bean. Not to mention all of the WiFi only Tabs are hacker friendly. You can get ICS if you really want it.

        • he was talking about official updates..with touchwiz and all…

  • Well Hopefully the codw Drops that day Will get Some Bugz Worked out in the Aosp Style ROMS ……. I Wonder How they Will F%$@# up a ICS ROM With .. Some Touch WIZZ BULL!!! Alll I have to Say Is Finally… Wonder if will see 4.1 JB now lol

  • dmell

Today i got an update from samsung for my galaxy tab 10.1 but it was not ics i dont know why nor for what

  • dmell

Why they send me that update we want ics

  • Amell Lemoniel

Someone know for what was that update?

  • simon Orme

I,m really disappointed by the delayed upgrades on Samsung android devices. Ics is being rolled out finally just as jelly bean comes along. I still have no chrome browser, touchwiz just seems like bloat and the gingerbread os seems very dated compared with my Google branded phone which has had ics since xmas. When I brought my tablet in march an upgrade was supposed to be only weeks away. So i feel promises on ics were misleading and possibly even deceptive. Ive noticed ics on samsung galaxy phones does not provide the full ics experience. Chrome for example doesnt work on samsung ics. I fear the same will happen to the tab upgrade if it ever happens. I recommend avoiding anything with a touchwiz overlay. Touchwiz equals nonupgradable and outdated. Samsung should ose sales to the Google nexus tab.

    • TK

I am equally disappointed with Samsung. When I purchase my unit during the launch last year, I was told an ICS update was on the horizon. I have since boycotted all Samsung smartphone.

  • So we’ll get ICS on our devices after some get Jelly Bean…….. cool

  • rober34

We the Samsung Galaxy Tab owners are thrilled to hear this every other monday. It’s just pathethic Samsung has been promising the coming update “very very soon” for one year.

    • No more Samsung products for me – except maybe the TVs of course. I refuse to use another product that is going to make me wait almost a year to get a software update, and when they finally release it, a NEWER OS update is already available. Unacceptable.

  • Stefan

Samsung upgrade support is a joke. No hardware is better than the software/OS that runs on it. This is probably the last time I buy their Android-based products.

  • Blitzo

Hopefully it will come out even if it isn’t going to be on sale

  • may have to root this baby and put Jelly Bean on it as soon as its out

  • mbrail

i have the tab 8.9 LTE, i dont see that in the list. will i be able to get 4.0 as well?

  • Brie

A Samsung “update” is to buy the next device already wearing the latest Android OS. Basically Samsung does “update” devices to the newest OS, you just have to pay $600+ to get it. Its ALL NEXUS for me from now on. Samsung puts together fantastic hardware…but….YOU F*****G SUCK WITH SOFTWARE!

    • so true…

    • i tend to agree…i will be opting for nexus myself in the future…

  • mbrail

is this going to ever come out?!! this is ridiculous already.

  • ICSohno

Omg theyre HORRIBLE never AGAIN, might as well ROOT the damn thing. Starts with an A ends with E will be number ONE when you VAVE horrible update delivery. I think you guys should give it up in the tablet arena, i love my 10.1 tab but wait half of the year for an upgrade that’s been out for SIX months is a DISGRACE.

  • SamsungGalaxy10.1who?

Well we won’t have to worry now right? Apple put a temp block on Samsung 10.1 tab sales lol what a joke, allows us to upgrade to the new bu returning the old one for half the price if that’s how they want us to update. I don’t need seven freaking tablets in my household. I hope Motorola learns a lesson from this as well update your crap early or less lose to the competition. If i were google i’d say bye bye to those slow companies and stick with one in order to get things move along faster, it’s fair to us having to wait 6months to a year even for something thta’s been around for that period of time. If you can’t remain in the tablet war getbout now please hsving to go forum to forum is a pain in the butt. Rooting is the way to go but at times somethings don’t so what’s the point, samsung stick to tvs you’re better in that realm please. I’m beyond disappointment as of now every month we are seeing the updates being put on delay maybe you should hire XDA or CM9guys to help programming the updates to be pushed out faster. This isn’t the way to go when you are going up against the big APPLE.

    • Ted

They did hire the CM9. Last year. One reason the S3 is so awesome! You see CM all over this thing.

  • kfath1978

As a owner of the vzw galaxy tab 10.1 this will be my last non nexus device purchased. sick of waiting on carriers and samsung to push out updates months later. its a joke. honestly debating on paying the etf fee and selling this tab for a nexus 7.

  • I’m thinking of going back to iPhone, and getting a Asus Tab

  • Nerv101

What exactly does “very soon” mean? Hope it means “before I give up on Samsung” and get an iPad.

  • Ron Rieger

I’ll believe it when I see it. In reality, I blame google for this. They should have had much greater control of their operating system.

  • Shutup Whiners

I wonder how many of you whiners bitching about upgrades actually know what you’re bitching about. Is there some specific functionality you’re expecting in ICS or JB? Honeycomb does everything I want so I am not really understanding all you complainers. When ICS or JB comes, I’ll get it, but you won’t hear me bitching until then. Geez.

    • Tablet Tards

I agree 100%. Some people just aren’t happy unless they have something to bitch about.

    • russ

How abt nova or apex launcher instead of that lame touchwiz shit u like so much…its nexus 4 me too

  • whinner……

And we get the latest update we only then have to get our oil slicks fixed :-)

  • MikaelM1995

What’s really pathetic is that you can buy a cheap $90 Polaroid tablet at Kohl’s and it has ICS installed on it, but I pay $500 for a Samsung tab and it takes forever to get ICS

  • Girish D N

I have updated my Tab 7.0 plus to ICS. Amazingly the battery backup has increased atleast 1.6 times. Now without any hesitation i have replaced my phone with my Tab full time. Face recognition is a new treat and Google voice has an “Indian English” option which is giving 100% voice to text results. Still Google navigation is missing in time since a long time which i am waiting for. Any news, anybody – appreciated.
Great Going Android, this is the way i like it.

    • vishal chaudhary

Dude,I need to talk to you. It’s urgent. Could you just give me your email id, so that I can discuss about it.

  • Tofiq

I just bought a galaxy s3, hopefully i don’t regret. Tired of waiting for updates from the manufacturer…

  • vishal chaudhary

I m planning to buy a Samsung galaxy tab, but I am pretty confused to choose between
GT-P6200 Galaxy Tab Plus 7.0 WIFI + 3G and Galaxy tab 2 P3100. They both have almost similar features, except the better camera features of former one, and also the better processor speed. The front facing camera is a priority to me as well. The difference in rates is 2.5 k bucks. Could you suggest me something. Also, will I have any problems in upadating the former one to ICS. Please Help. Thanks!

  • vishal chaudhary
  • Christine Lavalier

THE UPDATE IS OUT! Just kidding, I’ve already thrown my pad to thrash, no more samsung with it’s antique os.

  • Jess

I didn’t get the update on p7510 (root) bought in Swiss. What have I to do?

  • andres scarampi

Bla bla bla bla bla update. Bla bla bla bla first quarter. Bla bla bla bla second quarter bla bla bla bla 2012. Bla bla samsung bla bla bla

  • nes

Chris, do you happen to know when is the schedule of Indonesia area to have ICS for GT-P6200?

  • simon Orme

And here we are half way through October and still no firmware update from Samsung. I brought a nexus 7 for my mother and the software is vastly superior to a Samsung running gingerbread. The battery life is superior, the transitions are super smooth and most importantly, there is a chrome browser which automatically synchronises with your other devices and doesn’t randomly crash (which happens quite often with touchwiz). I have noticed newer samsung devices do have ICS (not JB), which just makes it even more irritating. Even more disappointed.

  • galaxy sucks

no p1000 update? i will NEVER buy another samsung product. 2 years after i bought the hardware and its pretty much redundant with no support for things like xbox smartglass. samsung can suck my fatty. i wont even buy another tv or bluray player either. they just ook the money and ran, fuggem
