Bored with the stock OS on your Samsung Galaxy Tab  7.7? Free your tablet now and get the thrill of trying custom ROMs on your device. To “free” your tablet, of course, means to root it.  Thanks to developer Jade Eyed Wolf at the XDA Developers forum, we now have a hassle-free and straightforward rooting method for the Galaxy Tab 7.7.

The rooting method requires nothing more than the stock recovery on your Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7–no need for custom recovery.  An external microSD card is also needed.  The root solution basically comes in the form of a rooting file that needs to be flashed to the device through stock recovery.  This rooting method also reportedly works for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus.

Requirements

As usual, let us first go through all the things that  you need before we proceed to the rooting steps. It's always better to prepare the things you need rather than having to get them right when you are about to use them. Be sure that you don't forget anything on the list.

• Download the Root.zip file from here.
• Download and install Samsung KIES from here.  Installing this tool will also install the Samsung USB drivers for your tablet, which are required for you to transfer files to and from your tablet.
• External microSD card
• Back up all important files and data on your phone.
• Charge your tablet's battery so you won't lose power during rooting.

Instructions

Here are the instructions for rooting your Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7. Follow the steps carefully.

1. Connect your Galaxy Tab 7.7 to your computer using a USB cable and transfer the Root.zip file to the root of the external microSD card on your phone.
2. Turn off your tablet.
3. Reboot your device into Recovery mode. (Press Volume Up and Power button simultaneously; once the Galaxy Tab logo appears, release the Power button.)
4. If you are already in the recovery menu, scroll to “install update from external storage”.
5. Look for the Root.zip file that you have transferred earlier and select the file by pressing the Power button.
6. The flashing of the Root.zip file will now start and once it is completed your device will automatically reboot.
7. After the tablet has rebooted, download and install the Superuser app from the Android Market.

Easy, isn't it? Your Galaxy Tab 7.7 is now rooted and you can now you can try some custom ROMs on your tablet.
