ParanoidAndroid is one of the most customizable ROMs out there and you certainly will be enjoying UIs from both the world of tablets and the world of phones. The ROM is a hybrid of these two UIs and because of that, settings are provided to suit your tastes. DPI sizes can be adjusted as much as you want and as often as you want.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 has recently been showered with the great features of the ParanoidAndroid ROM plus a tasty helping of Jelly Bean. A ParanoidAndroid ROM developed and released by XDA Developers member Androguide.fr was made available for the eager owners of the Galaxy Tab 7.7 to try out. Owners of the Galaxy Tab 7.7 P6800, P6810, and I815 from Verizon can all try this ROM; the installation process is the same for all three variants of the tablet.

This guide shows you how to upgrade the Galaxy Tab 7.7 to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean via ParanoidAndroid ROM.

Requirements

Instructions

  1. Copy the ParanoidAndroid ROM package and the GApps package to your tablet's SD card.
  2. Switch your tablet off and boot into ClockworkMod Recovery. To do this, press and hold the Volume Up and Power buttons together until the screen turns on. Release the Volume Up key but keep pressing the Power button until the tablet boots into ClockworkMod Recovery.
    • NOTE: You can use the Volume keys to navigate and the Power button to select an item in recovery.
  3. Make a NANDroid backup of your current ROM. To create a backup, go to Backup and Restore and select Backup.
  4. If you are running a non-CM10 based custom ROM, you need to wipe your tablet's data. Select Wipe data/Factory reset and confirm the action on the next screen.  You may skip this step if you are running a CyanogenMod 10 ROM or another ROM based on it.
  5. Select Wipe cache. Confirm the action on the next screen.
  6. Select Advanced > Wipe Dalvik cache and confirm the action on the next screen.
  7. Select Install ZIP From SD Card.
  8. Select Choose ZIP From SD Card and navigate to the Paranoid Android ROM ZIP file. Select the file and confirm the action on the next screen to start installing the ROM to your phone.
  9. Once installation of the ROM is done, install the GApps package in the same manner as in steps 7 and 8.
  10. After installing the GApps package, select Go back and select Reboot system now. This will reboot your tablet to the newly installed Paranoid Android ROM.

Great job! You have successfully upgraded your Galaxy Tab 7.7 to Jelly Bean through the ParanoidAndroid ROM. Liking the ROM so far? Anything worth taking note of?

Hi, just installed to 4.1.2 following the above instructions but I have one small problem, my home screens can only be viewed in landscape mode and not portrait. I can view the play store, Chrome, Gmail, Facebook in portrait or landscape, but everytime I go back to my home page, it’s always in landscape. What have I done and what can I do to fix this?

    • TheDoc

Alright I got a solution, you can use a program called ultimate rotation in app store. The nexus 7 apparently got the opposite problem, so that it’s only in portrait on the home screen.

      • Robbo B

Hi TheDoc, I found that app the other night and its working a treat. All working great from my end now. Very happy with Jelly Bean!

        • lenkiatleong

I’m not sure if you have enable Settings, Launcher, General, auto-rotate screen? With this enabled, the desktop and lockscreen can rotate 360 degree.

I prefer to wait the stable version if possible, I hate animated round LOGO of CM10 while it was using for P6200, I am consider run JB 4.1.2 in my P800 (GTab 7.7)

  • ahchua

cannot install whatsapp even i uninstalln install back? anyway to solve this issue?

    • lenkiatleong

Whatsapp works in v2.5 version. Try that.

  • Hawt2Trot

does it have to be Verizon?

  • lenkiatleong

I’m using P6800 and followed the instruction above but did not work. After installing Paranoid ROM and reboot, got stuck at Galaxy Tab 7.7 logo forever. What must i do?

    • lenkiatleong

      Update:

Downloaded latest v2.5 from this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1838391

It got past Galaxy tab 7.7 logo and will stuck at Paranoid logo for more than 5 minutes the first time. Be patience. Afther 5-7 minutes, it got past Paranoid logo and TADA!! It works. And guess what? Its 4.1.2 !!!!

Most things work in this ROM, rotate 360 degree in desktop and lockscreen and etc. but USB tethering and wifi hotspots are not working. Notification pull down size is not optimised to tab’s width and height.

      • desparate3

what is the issue with wifi? can’t connect to any hotspot? can you please share with me?

        • lenkiatleong

Wifi is working well. Its the tether hotspot via wifi that is missing, i.e., i want to use 7.7 as a hotspot for my notebook to tab 7.7 internet access. As Paranoid is based on CM10, i’d expect it to work as my Galaxy Nexus has this and working.
USB tethering is there but its not working.

          • Tony

I upgraded my 7.7 to Nexus 7.7. Mine works like a charm as a wifi hotspot. Is this only ParanoidAndroid issue?

          • lenkiatleong

Yes. Paranoidandroid did not include or enable wifi hotspot feature. BTW, I think i tried nexus 7.7 too and i could not get wifi hotspot to work too. That’s why i look at paranoidandroid. Is that the copy that you need to install the ROM twice?

          • Tony

I didn’t install twice. I just installed Opengarden app (root ver). Anyway which one do you prefer, Paranoid rom or Nexus rom?

          • lenkiatleong

Thanks for the tips on using Opengarden app. I prefer paranoid.

  • desparate

help! same as author below can’t boot up stuck at galaxy tab 7.7 logo

  • http://twitter.com/QuCub QuCub

If you’re stuck, try ROM 2.20 (google: pa_p6800-2.20-11OCT.2012-182400.zip or PIMPED_pa_p6800-2.20-13OCT.2012-160407.zip). For me it worked.

  • desparate 2

can someone please give a workable ROM version? rather than keep trying and restoring the previous ROM (if it does not work). also please update the main page as well to avoid many wasted efforts :(

  • TheDoc

@robbo_b:disqus Got the same issue, please anyone!!

  • Parvez Manzoor

It is irresponsible to recommend, indeed release this rom. Once you’ve installed it according all the rules of the book, you cannot reboot. It stays stuck in some kind of loop. Resetting it to factory settings looses the wifi. Frankly what advantage does it have over cyan rom 10, a droid 4.1.1? I urge impatient users to stick to the 4 1.1 version and wait for a proper workable update. The lamentable fact is that p 6800 is such a beautiful piece of machinery, caught in the silly feud between Apple and Samsung, and may not receive what is best from the industry. So, please young developers help grandfathers like me (I am 70). Thanks.

  • Jannick

At first I’d like to thank for the great release.
But after flashing to 4.1 i have no access to the Tablet when connected to my Computer.
Anybody there who can possibly help?
    Regards
