  • Read and understand the whole guide first before actually performing the instructions.

Requirements

  • A Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 GT-P3113
  • A Windows PC
  • Download and install the necessary USB drivers on your computer. You can get them by installing Samsung Kies on your computer. Make sure to close Samsung Kies before following the procedures below.
    • If you face problems related to the USB drivers, you will need to update the drivers on your computer. Go to your PC’s Device Manager and update the Samsung USB driver.
  • Charge your tablet’s battery to 75% or more.
  • Disable system tools such as anti-virus software, firewall program, and Samsung KIES to prevent any interruptions during the procedure.
  • Enable USB debugging on your tablet.
  • Backup all personal data on your tablet to make sure you have a copy of your personal data (e.g., contacts, SMS, MMS, Internet settings, Wi-Fi passwords, and the like) in case the procedure in this guide erases such data.
  • Download the developer nycbjr’s rooting package (cwm-root-gtab2.zip, 1.22 MB).
  • Download the following ClockworkMod Recovery images:
    • Download xoomdev’s CWM Recovery image (espressowifi-recovery-5-18.tar.md5, md5sum: 6e0f1542634f60bfaade6c2bc4cd30a5) if your tablet came with UEALCB or UEALD3 firmware.
    • Download imnuts’ CWM Recovery image (espresso_recovery.tar.md5, 9.4 MB) if your tablet came with UEALCB firmware and updated it into the over-the-air UEALD3 firmware update. You can also use this image file if you are running UEALD3.
  • Download Odin3 v1.85 (Odin3-v1.85_3.zip, 199 kB)

Instructions

  1. Copy cwm-root-gtab2.zip to the root of your tablet’s external SD card (/mnt/extSdCard). Do not transfer the file to /mnt/sdcard folder. This is the tablet’s internal memory storage and cannot be recognized in ClockworkMod Recovery.
  2. Turn off your Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 GT-P3113.
  3. Reboot your Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 GT-P3113 into Download Mode. You can do that by pressing and holding the Volume Up key (right key on the Volume rocker) and Power button. When a warning message appears, press the Volume Down key (left key on the Volume rocker) to continue into Download Mode.
    • NOTE: To avoid confusion, the left Volume key refers to the button closest to the Power button. On the other hand, the right Volume key refers to the button farthest from the Power button.
  4. Extract Odin3-v1.85_3.zip to a folder on your computer.
  5. Click Odin3 v1.85.exe to launch Odin on your computer.
  6. Using your USB cable, connect your tablet to the computer. The word “Added” will appear on Odin. If it doesn’t appear, make sure you have installed the necessary drivers on your computer.
  7. Click the PDA button in Odin and select espressowifi-recovery-5-18.tar.md5.
    • NOTE: Do not make any changes in Odin except for the required file on the PDA tab.
  8. Click the Start button in Odin to begin flashing the ClockworkMod Recovery image to your tablet.
  9. After installation is complete, a box on the Odin window will turn green. You will also get the “Pass” message on Odin.
  10. Your tablet will now reboot. You can disconnect your tablet from the computer once the Samsung logo appears on the screen.
  11. Turn off your tablet and reboot it into ClockworkMod Recovery mode. You can do that by pressing and holding the Volume Down key (left key on the Volume rocker) and Power button. When the Samsung logo appears, release the Power button while keeping the left Volume key pressed.
    • NOTE: Once in recovery, use the Volume keys to navigate and the Power button to select an option.
  12. Select Install ZIP From SD Card.
  13. Choose the cwm-root-gtab2.zip and confirm the action to initiate the rooting process.
  14. Once complete, go back to the main menu and select Reboot System Now to restart your tablet.

You have successfully flashed ClockworkMod Recovery and acquired root access on your Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 GT-P3113. You can now perform tweaks and customizations on your Android tablet. Good work!

Does this work on Linux boxes?

    • bissbond

please tell me How do I fix this error…E:signature verification failed?

      • http://profiles.google.com/levon.spradlin l s

I am getting the same verification error as well. Instead of “Select Install ZIP From SD Card” I see the “apply update from external storage” but only get the option to install from sdcard instead of extsdcard (though I did copy it to the external card). CSC applies successfully, but E:signature verification fails just as some others have seen. What gives?

  • azlen

    Thanks! Works Great!

  • Akiyoo

My Tab 2 7.0 updated thru OTA to P3113UEBLG2 build number, may I know which CWM image to download ? Thanks

    • Cody Bruce

I used the first one, but now when I try to apply the root .zip, I get a verification failure error. Running
      P3113UEBLG2 via OTA update.

      • margaret

yeah…got the recent update to ICS and got this same error. “E:signature verification failed”

  • Kevin

Alvin, please respond on how to overcome this verification error we seem to be getting!! Thanks

  • tkalfaoglu

On my GT-5113, with ice cream sandwich, if I go into volume up recover, I do not get a download option or warning. If I volume down, I get the download option which says to press volume down to continue. If I continue, it does not go into download mode!

  • FletchGuy

Ok not sure which file for root to download as I do not know what that UEALCB or UEALD3 is. Mine has something like UEBLG5 in the build number.

My tablet is now looping on reboot. pls help

  • dragonsuicida

for those with looping, it might be due to the recent update of 4.0.4 I downloaded this file: https://www.dropbox.com/s/qaa1nm8r7zlc48g/ueblg5_espressowifi_recovery.tar.md5
    1 placed it on desktop,
    2 oppened Odin,
    3 clicked PDA,
    4 brouse the file …tar.md5
    5 click start
and it rebooted normally and rooted.

    Good luck

  • geekd

would the above steps work a nearly identical model number, with the additional letters “TS”??

  • colt

followed all the steps, got cwm recovery to work, went to install zip and no matter what I do it says “installation aborted”. I’m pretty new to this stuff so any ideas on what I’m doing wrong?

  • Drang

I, too, have had my firmware updated (
UEBLH2) and want to verify which recovery image to download.

  • Janneman27

I can’t seem to get into download mode!!!

I have the GT-P3113 with UEBLH2 firmware. Does the procedure still work the same (i.e. [power]+[vol-] for 10s) or has it changed for this firmware update?

I already have USB debugging enabled.,

  • mh

What recovery tar should be used for P3113UEBLH2

    • Janneman27

I also want to know what recovery file to use with UEBLH2 firmware!!!

  • prometheus complex

FILES NOT FOUND ERROR 404 ON THE LINKS PROVIDED.
    >:

  • prometheus complex

    THIS DOES NOT WORK!
    DO NOT DO IT!
HALF OF THE LINKS TO THE DOWNLOAD DON’T EVEN EXIST ANYMORE!
THEY DIDN’T EVEN INCLUDE THE FLASHED ROM FOR 4.0.4!
THIS WILL COMPLETELY DESTROY YOUR BACKED UP ROM!
    DO NOT USE THIS METHOD!

Is there a way to block automatic updates so Samsung will stop trying to cram Jelly bean down my throat and ruin compatibility with my apps? That would be a lot simpler than having to root my tablet.

  • petroniusto

will this method work with model GT-P5113 also?
