Samsung pushed an official firmware upgrade for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 GT-P3113 some time last month.  The said firmware is for software version UEBLH2, bringing Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich fixes and improvements for the GT-P3113.

The official firmware can be used to restore your tablet to its factory state, which means that it can be used as an escape route if you ever need to revert to stock firmware.  For instance, this can be very handy if you stumble upon an bad or misbehaving custom ROM that makes your tablet malfunction.

This guide shows you how to revert the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 P3113 to Android 4.0.4 ICS build UEBLH2 (stock official firmware).

Requirements

  • Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 GT-P3113
  • A Windows PC
  • Install your handset's USB drivers on the PC. You may install the drivers by installing Samsung Kies.
  • Enable USB debugging on your handset.
  • Disable antivirus, firewall, and other security software. Also disable Samsung Kies and other software that accesses your phone. Such software can interfere with the procedure in this guide.
  • Download the following files to your computer:
  • Make sure your device's battery still has at least 70% power. You don't want the device to shut down in the middle of the procedure.
  • Backup all personal data on your phone to make sure you have a copy of your personal data (e.g., contacts, SMS, MMS, Internet settings, Wi-Fi passwords, and the like) in case the procedure in this guide erases such data.

Instructions

  1. Using ZIP extraction software, extract the *.tar.md5 file contained in the UEBLH2 firmware update package.
  2. Extract the contents of Odin3_v3.04.zip to your computer.
  3. Turn off your tablet.  Make sure it is not hooked up to your PC.
  4. Run Odin on your computer by double-clicking Odin3 v3.04.exe.
  5. Click the PDA button in Odin and load the *.tar.md5 file contained in the UEBLH2 firmware update package that you unzipped.
  6. Do not change any other setting in Odin.  Make sure that the checkbox for “Re-partition” is not ticked.
  7. Reboot the tablet into Download Mode by holding down the Volume Down and Power buttons until you see the warning screen. Press the Volume Up key to continue to Download Mode.
  8. Connect the tablet to your PC via USB cable.  You should see an “Added!” message on the Odin window.
  9. Click the Start button in Odin to begin flashing the firmware to your tablet.  When installation completes and succeeds, Odin will display a “PASSED” message in one of its boxes.  The tablet will also automatically reboot.
  10. If, on rebooting, the screen gets stuck at the Samsung logo, try resolving it by doing the following:
    • Turn off the tablet.
    • Boot into Recovery Mode by holding down Power and Volume Up buttons together until the screen turns on.  When the Samsung logo appears, let go of the Power button but keep holding down the Volume Up button until the device boots into recovery.
    • In Recovery Mode, select Wipe data/Factory reset and select Yes on next screen.
    • Select Reboot system now to reboot the tablet

Congratulations!  You've successfully reverted your Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 to Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich build UEBLH2.

    Alvin,

I updated my Samsung Tab to Jelly Bean, but I didn´t like the problems with rotating screen and the fact that I could no longer update automatically from Samsung. I came across your article and got it back to original state. Thank you so much!!

    Greetings from Monterrey, Mexico.

    Odin link is dead.

i got odin 1.85 from a rooting link and that one worked fine thanxxx

I just went back to 4.0.4 after finding a lot of things in Jelly Bean I really didn’t like:

Screen dimmer than before at any setting
    Colors very washed out
Needless & illogical changes to the settings menus
Changes to the pop-up keyboard including deleting the ‘next’ and ‘prev’ buttons
Moving the time/status bar to the top of screen and making it narrower
Reducing the number of command buttons in the status bar and moving them to the center

I’m sure there’s more but after 2 days, I couldn’t take JB any longer. Not to say that JB isn’t very good on other makes of devices but it certainly isn’t in its present form on P3113′s.

Many thanks to the author(s) of this article. I realize it was written almost 4 months ago so I thought it worth mentioning a few experiences I had to put others who may use this at ease. In my case I had to use different sources for Odin and the firmware package than those listed but they were easy to find and use. And regarding point 10 about the re-boot getting stuck at the SAMSUNG logo, even after following the advice of going through the recovery mode, my unit still seemed to hang for the longest time on the SAMSUNG logo. At least a minute or more, especially painful when you’re already holding your breath in the hope you haven’t killed your tablet. But it did finally reach the lock screen after at least one screen showing some further processing bars and all now seems to be well.

One last item that is different is that even though I have auto rotation turned off so as to retain everything in ‘landscape’ mode, the lock screen which used to appear in landscape mode before going to JB and now back to 4.0.4 UEBLH2 always opens in ‘portrait’ mode with nothing changing until I swipe to unlock.

    In any event, thanks again!

As a new user of the galaxy tab 2 7.0 I found the upgrade to jelly bean on this device to be lacking. the screan shot icon is missing which made it easier to execute than to try a combination of buttons in order to take a screen shot. the screen colour and resolution is very pour, the responsiveness of the touch is “irritating”. Jelly-Bean offers much on other devices but the developers will need to go back to the drawing and release to all markets once the kinks have been worked out in India.

  • glvr

    You ROCK!

My galaxy updated yesterday – and I HATED it. Half my screen space was gone, nothing fit like it had before, and all my custom placed icons were gone.

I did everything just like you said. It did freeze on the Samsung screen. It didn’t work when I first followed step 10, but then I did another “reboot system now” and now it is PERFECT!

    Thank you so much!

My honest opinion of the new update to Jelly Bean 4.1.1 is that someone from Apple must have infiltrated Samsung to destroy our ability to enjoy our tablets. That is the only logic I can make of the updates and what they do to this device. It has horrid quirks. The keyboard sticks, and you must use ‘back’ to get it to go down, if it will. After a couple of times it decides to obey. The update completely erased my organized pages, everything I did to make this useful is gone. Screenshot now does not work, and saying to hold volume and power is a joke, no matter what I try it just beeps at me and then shuts the tablet off. The volume key is now a beepy ‘notifications’ bar, which must be a glitch because its not even logical. The clock and menu is in an incredibly distracting place and the attached settings menu now is activated if i try to read an ebook, because it is in the same place as ereader settings. I just want my tablet back. I can’t even email Samsung tech support because they have removed the ability to add the model #, which is required to tell them all of this. I chatted with a tech support person who simply said, in broken English, that there is nothing in the manual on any of these issues or how to fix them. By the response i got i know that i am not alone in having issues with the update. I am not sure if I should try this fix, but since my tablet is now useless, what is there to lose? right? Other than a couple of days restoring what should have never been destroyed in the first place.

I had the same response, tried to route via one of the non-wifi and they told me the only option was the live chat. I figure there’s nothing to loose so I’m going to revert back and never update the thing (and pray I can also charge while plugged in to the wall which broke a number of months back).

Just ran through this and now my tablet is working perfectly like just before the update. You, sir, are a godsend. Thank you so much for all your help in this! :)

  • MotherOf3

I totally agree with those who left comments about the new Jelly Bean 4.1.1 update destroying the look, feel, and function of their Samsung product. I was given a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 GT-P3113 for Xmas which had the stock Ice Cream Sandwish 4.0.4 OS. Being a mother and not very technically-savvy, I found the UI very user-friendly. I was even able to overcome issues like not being able to watch movies using my Amazon Prime account and Skyping with friends. I was in love with my new gadget! However, that all changed when the JB update was “forced” on my tablet on January 16th. I was appalled. The movies on Amazon Prime were now warped with continuous interruptions of “connecting” pauses and the screen saver would pop up every few minutes no matter if I had removed the feature or turned it off. I also do not like the amount of real estate the the menu buttons took up at the bottom and also being moved to the middle of the screen. The notification features were great originally where they were on the bottom-right of the screen with the clock and indicators. Why were they moved? At any rate, I searched and searched and actually did was able to revert my Galaxy Tab back to its original ICS OS by following the above directions. Mind you it did take me close to 3 hours trying to do it since I’m not very “techy” and I did have to do a Google search on the “Odin3..” zip file mentioned in the instructions since the link didn’t work. I was able to find the 3.04 version off of the XDA-Developers site. And like SINC below said, I did have to do the added steps on #10 because the screen did hang on the lone “Samsung” logo for the longest time (it’s the 2nd logo after the initial one showing the product name pops up). But I did the reboot and waited for about 2-3 minutes after trying the instructions again for the 2nd time and it worked like a charm! Thank you very much Alvin for putting together great instructions for a non-techie person like me and for allowing me to enjoy my tablet again! Hope this also helps those trying to revert back to ICS :)

Guys I have a problem. I rooted my tablet and attempted to install the cyanogenmod. Well cyanogenmod was stuck at the boot screen so I do I went into clockwork mod recovery and clicked format sd card or something like that. Now when I tried to restore in clockwork mod recovery there was no files on the sd card like I had just wiped the entire sd card. If I download the stock firmware and restore it in Odin will it work? Please email me your answer at joshcollier98@yahoo.com please I really want to fix my tablet. It is a gt-p3113 galaxy tab 2 7.0. Thanks guys!

Lack of support – not so sure Samsung will stay in my future. New phone option in 3 months.

Does this work if your tablet came with 4.1.1 installed on it? I attempted it but got the FAIL message.

  • S.ICS

Thnx Alvin for awesome instructions ….it really helped..
Updating to Jelly Bean was the worst mistake..I’m glad there was simple way to revert back to original 4.0.4..
I just only one thing to say to people who makes this update out their…do it only when all the media surrounding the user is covered with those aspects that update will comprehend and make best use of ….don’t make us update ahead of time…

    Thnx again Alvin..

Dude. You. Are. Awesome. Rooted my tab, installed a stupid rom. Bricked my tablet, spent most of my time today trying to ‘revive’ it. Was supposed to be studying for a test. Then, I saw this. *cue angels singing* Saved my life and 200 bucks. TANX MAN.
