Earlier this week Samsung took the veil of the Galaxy S5 LTE-A, bringing LTE-A support alongside a faster Snapdragon 805 CPU, 3GB RAM and a QHD display. The specs might have been boosted forward, but the exterior remained the same. For those in South Korea that want the upgraded specs of the LTE-A model but are looking for something different, the Korean giant will also offer the Galaxy S5 LTE-A Special Edition.

So what’s different with the Special Edition? While the front remains the same as always, the perforated back has been swapped out in favor of a a diamond-like textured back that appears to offer a better grip. Whether it looks better or worse than the original GS5 is probably a matter of personal taste, but at least it is something a bit different.

Just like the S5 LTE-A, the Special Edition will remain exclusive to Korea into the foreseeable future, and reportedly this model will actually be sold only through Korean carrier Olleh. Of course, if you really like the look, there will likely be 3rd party replacement covers that mimic the design down the road. What do you think of the S5 LTE-A’s back, an improvement or another step backward?
