Extend your Galaxy S5’s battery life with 5900mAh Mugen extended battery

Today’s high-end smartphones are powerful beasts with multi-core processors, 1080p (or higher!) displays, and other components that blow away the devices of yester-year. Of course with great power comes great battery drain, and so today’s smartphones see ever increasing battery sizes.

Turning to the Samsung Galaxy S5, we find a 2800 mAh battery designed to get you through a full day’s worth of moderate use. But what if you want more? Thankfully, the Galaxy S5 has the advantage of a removable battery, allowing you to swap in something even larger like Mugen’s new 5,900 mAh battery.

At $89.50, the Mugen Power extended battery isn’t exactly cheap, but it essentially delivers a little over double the battery life originally provided by the GS5, while also coming with support for NFC and QI wireless charging. On the downside, the battery and accompanying back cover will not offer water-resistance, though Mugen is reportedly working on a waterproof version for future release.

The Mugen Power extended battery can be ordered now directly through Mugen, though it’s important to note that the battery and cover won’t actually ship until June 6th. You’ll also have the choice between a black or white battery cover.

I think that it’d be wise to wait for the waterproof version!

Waterproof cover will be supplied free of charge once it is ready

I can only imagine how long it will take to charge a battery that big via Qi.

I gotta ask this… Why don’t companies make custom covers for smartphones that have removable cover o.O LIke moto X. I’m not a big fan of TouchWiz (the worst android skin that i even tried…), but having an S5 with, let’s say, bamboo cover would be nice?

Do they need the permission from the manufacturers to do it (Samsung, Sony, Lg…)?

A most important feature of samsung is the removable battery. I havent charged my note 3 in over 6 months! I feal sorry for people that chain their phone to the wall just to charge it. I use a genuine samsung spare battery and charger kit. Its an absolute MUST have. I used one for my note 2 too. its available for most samsung phones. I can go from empty to full battery in 30 seconds, the time to change the battery. This is really heaven and you have to try it to believe it. It makes life much much easier. let alone it will prolong your battery life because you can always do the full charge/discharge cycle.

    I see Hyperion has a 6500mAh for a lot less: http://www.hyperionea.com/shop/?s=s5+6500&x=0&y=0
