Galaxy S4 Android 4.3 getting near, as “final” firmware leaks – build I9505XXUEMJ3

October 13, 2013

Galaxy S4 vs Moto X

A new Android 4.3 test build for the Galaxy S4 has been leaked, and it’s available for download, as the release of the official ROM is said to be scheduled for the following weeks.

Sam Mobile posted a short tweet a few hours ago in which it revealed the Android 4.3 update for Samsung’s flagship smartphone should arrive in “1/2 weeks.” Later, it posted the new leaked build on its website, further confirming that roll out window for the Galaxy S4’s Android 4.3 update.

According to the publication, build I9505XXUEMJ3 is “one of the final builds,” although we’re still waiting for Samsung and its carrier partners to officially announce the update.

Sam Mobile also says that after testing the firmware for two days, it hasn’t noticed any major changes, but that there are “minor improvements here and there” – we’ll note that the same publication has posted a similar leak for the same GT-I9505 Galaxy S4 version.

Various reports have recently revealed that the Android 4.3 update for the Galaxy S4 will arrive at some point in October.

That said, we’ll remind you that we don’t encourage you to install unofficial ROMs, and everything that happens with your handsets and tablets during such processes falls under your responsibility. In case you do want to test the new Android 4.3 leak, make sure you follow closely the instructions posted by the publication.

      Yup…first idiot…Congrats.

On-topic: Can’t wait! All I want is the TRIM function !!!
I don’t care about other things in this release, but TRIM.

      • George

If you’re rooted try this mate!
        https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.grilledmonkey.lagfix&hl=el
I’ve been using it around 4-5 months and it’s flawless! :D

        • Daniel DS

Why is it in a weird language?

        • Laszlo Demeter

Yup…I used that on my S3. I still didn’t rooted my S4 because I don’t really need it this time and I’m scared with the new security and Knox, because I know it wouldn’t be easy to unroot and clean tracks (at least I haven’t checked yet). I have the 32gb so I don’t even need to move apps to SD. All I need is trim. Let’s hope it will come with the upgrade

          Thanks anyway for suggestion.

      • Alex

Is Samsung even including TRIM on their 4.3 updates?? I thought that was only Nexus devices? But If so that would be absolutely amazing. would definitely help.

        • Laszlo Demeter

Normally, that’s a Android 4.3 core feature, so it should be in every phone with 4.3 version. I can’t wait to check if it really have it.

          • Alex

The reason I’m not sure is because Google didn’t include TRIM support in the release of 4.3. TRIM was noticed when 4.3 was released for nexus devices. But I’m with ya I hope Samsung includes it

          • Laszlo Demeter

There are plenty of articles about Android 4.3 and it’s fstrim function. Also it’s specified in Wikipedia, check under 4.3

            http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jelly_Bean_(operating_system)#Android_4.1.2F4.2_Jelly_Bean

We’ll see when we get the update, just checking the log after a night with the phone charging.

    • TechDevil

Your parents must be so proud.

  • George Av

    what about s3

    • Android Developer

i think they said somewhere that it will be out for both S3 and note2 near the end of the month.
i wonder which roms do people install here for the S3 , if it’s the pure stock of samsung, something based on it, or something based on google’s.

      • George Av

Softmax mc3, with boeffla. Best rom ever. Used to run CM10 and Jellybam but the the camera couldn’t do jack shit on them so i jumped over to samsung based. But only MC3 roms since that’s the only software that has ram issues fixed.

      • John Garlits

So, looks like 2 years software support, and then it’s over.

    • http://petercast.net Peterson Silva

Yes, I want LEAKS people, LEAKS. Why isn’t anyone leaking 4.3 ROMs for the S3?

  • jjordan

I just want some love for my note 2…its the redheaded step child Samsung never wanted when it comes to updates

  • Kash Gummaraju

funny, htc beat samsung this time

    • TechDevil

Samsung is updating S3 and S4, and possibly also Note 2. Come back when any other device than HTC One gets the update.

      • Android Developer

that’s actually a good question – what happens with the other HTC smartphones that were released while the galaxy S3 was published?
like the ONE X and ONE S ?
        i wonder.

        • Brian Shieh

I think the One X in other parts of the world got 4.2.2 already except the USA. But anything not within the flagship category has been dumped and forgotten. I hope their One (mini, max, regular) line will be easier to maintain and update.

      • Amine Elouakil

The One X was updated to Android 4.2.2 for over a month now get your facts straight, meanwhile there are no news on the S3/Note 2 update not to mention that this is the second MAJOR update the One got witht the first one being android 4.2.2

        • TechDevil

HTC One X is a part of their “One” series, which are all the latest-generation phones. What about the devices that are not latest-gen? Samsung Galaxy S3 is not the latest, newest phone, and yet I’ve spoken to Samsung executives that say they are absolutely intending to update it to get more people to buy Galaxy Gear. Meanwhile, any HTC device not in the “One” range now lie in the dust. Get your facts straight.

          • Nickan Fayyazi

Do some research, and you’ll notice that the HTC One X was actually released before the GS3. It’s anything but a latest-gen phone.

          • Amine Elouakil

you need to check your facts, the One X is last year product that came out before the S3 as the One came out before the S4

          • Brian Shieh

            The S3 still sells fine.

        • TechDevil

OK, cool, you managed to name one device, good job! Meanwhile I’ve talked to Samsung executives who say they are absolutely intending to update S3 to get it compatible with Galaxy Gear for those sales to boost. And why do you think they are updating HTC One + X so quickly? Not because they want to be first, but because HTC is slipping, and they are trying to win customers by releasing quick updates. People who think that they update their devices so often and much, and they buy the One. Samsung, on the other hand, is not feeling the pressure of a sinking market-share and are properly adjusting their updates for the Galaxy Gear, giving S3 and S4 (and possibly Note 2) an even bigger market-share than they already had.

And let’s face it, a regular consumer doesn’t go for how quick updates are released. Most of them don’t even know what Android version they have. So even though Android version matters to us, most people don’t care.

          • Nickan Fayyazi

So you say HTC is “slipping” because they’re releasing updates faster than Samsung? What?

          • TechDevil

            http://gigaom.com/2013/04/08/heres-why-htc-is-losing-the-smartphone-game-hint-theres-no-one-reason/

They aren’t slipping because they’re releasing updates. They are losing market-share (slipping) and are releasing updates quickly to get people over to them. That’s what I’m saying.

          • Nickan Fayyazi

But that’s completely beside the point. The original point here is that HTC is releasing updates faster than Samsung. You claimed that only the latest HTC phone has been updated, while 2012 Samsung phones will beat 2012 HTC phones, but when someone disproved you (pointing out that the One X, a 2012 phone, already has 4.2 while the GS3 is still on 4.1), you changed the subject to market share.

          • TechDevil

You’re right, I got derailed somewhere along the way. I was in 5 different conversations, and lost track. My apologies. Either way, let’s wait until 2014, and see which phones get updated then. (Hint: None of them, hah :P)

          • Nickan Fayyazi

            Exactly :D

          • TechDevil

That’s my biggest problem when having a conversation on the Internet instead of face-to-face, it’s possible to have unlimited conversations at the same time and completely lose track on which one is what.

          • Amine Elouakil

euh? You buddy claimed something and were proven wrong, so why are you making excuses? and what the hell you is the galaxy gear has to do with it! Samsung introduced a restruction with the gear so people by the newer product, that’s all to it, the way the gear works should make it compatible with every available device, not like i m crazy enough to by 300€ on a piece of shit like the galaxy gear but some might.

You are just making unrelated excuses.

          • TechDevil

If you had actually read the entire thread instead of trying to be a smartass and commenting, you’d see I was in a lot of different conversations, 3 of them about Android. I lost track, and yes, I was proven wrong. At least I have the guts to admit it, you’ll find thousands of people on the Internet too stubborn to admit they were actually wrong in a conversation (maybe even yourself). Don’t go around thinking that you’re so much better simply because I lost the argument, because the truth is I folded and admitted to be wrong, while 80% of other people would continue desperately trying to win, especially by using personal attacks at the other commentors. That’s how most people act when someone proves them wrong, and it says more about me that I admit being wrong instead of going to the extend of personal attacks. I was proven wrong – I admitted it – and I don’t see any reason to keep this thread open, unless of course it makes you feel special commenting that I was wrong ;)

          • Amine Elouakil

u mad bro? you really are mad bro :) just chill a bit it’s just a discussion

          • TechDevil

Nope, not mad, I just wanted to say all of it, and what better way to compress it into one message, right? hah :)

          • Amine Elouakil

lol Well if you aren’t that mad, you had plenty of free of time while writting that, I don’t mind because it’s entertainning some time, but can we get back to topic :D so the One Max is officiel now.

          • Brian Shieh

If only HTC would continue this quick-update trend a while back.

        • Ben Edwards

Just putting this out there, but 4.2.2 should never have been an update for the One in the first place – it should have shipped with it like every other flagship released this year (excluding the Xperia Z, but that’s been replaced now anyway).

          • Amine Elouakil

No, ALL the phones that came out the same time as the One or slightly after came out with Android 4.1 such as the LG G Pro, Xperia Z/ZL/ZR ….. the first phone to come out with 4.2 out of the box is the S4 which came out 2 months later (released by the end of April)

        • Brian Shieh

I think most maufacturers are skipping 4.2.2 for 4.3 because the difference is minimal

          • Amine Elouakil

No, Sony, HTC, LG updated their phones to 4.2.2 at least in some regions, not because Samsung is lazy enough and makes you think that is the case, it is the case for everyone

        • Blowntoaster

let’s see if the One X gets to 4.4, then we’ll trust HTC.

There have been leaked documents regarding the region lock that sort of confirms that the S3, Note 2 etc will be getting 4.4.

          • Amine Elouakil

Well 4.4 will be released beyond the 18months recommanded phone cycle, but I’m pretty confident HTC will update it to 4.4 but anything beyond that is less likely especially if next version is a major update (aka 5.0à

    • Anthony Walker

It may be the only update if its following in the steps of other HTC phones.

      • Kash Gummaraju

yet the one x got the 4.2.2 update before the s3

        • Anthony Walker

          I’m 99.9% sure that’s the last update.

  • Marsg

Any news if the note 10.1 is getting the update?

  • Mystery Man

T-mobile will never officially get it. I don’t even think any OTA updates were released…. like the move apps to sd card one

  • John

will the Galaxy s4 i9500 get the update as well?

    • Laszlo Demeter

Of course. Maybe will get it later, two-three days later than 9505, but will get it for sure

  • Gregory Piciulo

So sick of the leaks, the bullshit supposed dates, when is it really going to drop. Me myself and my s3 have been hearing about firmware updates for 6 months now. Stop with this tease shit and drop something official already…..

  • jaydub110

Does that include the s4 Active ?

    • Joe

I hope that it will be on Active.
