Developers have been busier than bees the past few weeks for they have been working non-stop to let Galaxy S3 owners experience Jelly Bean on their device. Three out of the four U.S. variants (Verizon, Sprint, and T-Mobile) of the Galaxy S3 have received the official Jelly Bean-based CyanogenMod 10 (CM10) custom ROMs.

Jelly Bean features can now be previewed and enjoyed, thanks to the efforts of XDA Developers member cyanogen, the man behind one of the most popular and most used custom ROMs.

To complete the line-up, it is now the AT&T Samsung Galaxy S3′s turn to get a Jelly Bean preview build. And, because, this is still a preview build, expect some things to not work, such as the camera preview animations that have a tendency to crash. In a few days or so, these issues and bugs may be improved.

In the rest of this post, you will learn how to upgrade the AT&T Galaxy S3 I747 to Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean via CyanogenMod 10.

  2. Switch your phone off and boot into ClockworkMod Recovery. To do this, press and hold the Volume Up, Home, and Power buttons together until recovery boots.
  3. Make a NANDroid backup of your existing ROM in case there will be problems. To perform a backup, select Backup and Restore and choose Backup. Go back to the main recovery menu after backup is done.
  4. Select Wipe Data/Factory Reset and confirm the action on the next screen.
  5. Select Install ZIP from SD card then select Choose ZIP from SD card. Select the cm-10-20120720-UNOFFICIAL-d2att.zip file. Confirming the action on the next screen will start installing the ROM to your phone.
  6. After the installation is done, install the GApps package in the same manner as in step 5.
  7. Once installation is done, select Go back and choose Reboot system now to reboot your phone to the newly installed CM10 ROM.

Great! Your AT&T Samsung Galaxy S3 is now running on Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean via CyanogenMod 10 (preview build).

are you guys using different variants of the s3? as in using another carrier?

        • JpMaxMan

JP here – I am not. I am using Galaxy S3 on AT&T.

          Model number SAMSUNG-SGH-I747
          Android Version 4.0.4
          Baseband Version I747UCLG1
          Kernel Version 3.0.8-704434-userse.infra@SEP-72 #1 SMP PREEMPT Wed Jul 4 12:40:58 KST 2012

Interestingly – I just tried with the nightly CM 9 and got the same thing. The only thing I can think of is I got a newly released red galaxy S3 and paid full price with no contract from the AT&T store. I can’t imagine the color would matter. And I’m pretty sure they didn’t sell me any different phone than if I’d paid the contract price. I can’t imagine why it would think it’s some other variant.

Upgrading to the latest version of clockwork mod recovery seems to have done the trick. I updated from within the existing recovery to the new one using these: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=28612095&postcount=558

I’m using rogers. just download “rom manager” from the play store and flash the latest CWM. (5.8). That should fix the problem

I had the same error. You need to update your ClockworkMod Recovery to the latest version then everything will install fine. FYI google voice search not working and camera crashes a lot,

  • Artem

    Same error, please help.
    Thanks.

If you check the directory the CM10 preview is located in, you’ll find a new version that was posted today.
    http://android.chemlab.org/previews/

Can’t comment on how well it may or may not work, I haven’t tried it. Just an FYI.

(There’s also a newer version of the google apps zip in that directory too)

    • bsphil

Tried it out. A wiping to camera from the lock screen didn’t work. Then, found out there was no root access. SuperSU was on it but it didn’t work, neither did Superuser. Not ready for use yet.

I cannot find the google apps zip and i tried using the one posted in this article but obviously that did not work. if you could please post a link to the google apps zip that would be awesome

      • bsphil

This is the one I used most recently: http://tom.gascoigne.me/jellybean/gapps/gapps-jb-20120726-signed.zip

        Worked just fine.

        • http://www.facebook.com/Drumm3rforlife Ali Adnan

Awesome thanks! I will give it a shot soon. I noticed they uploaded a new CM10 zip on the 14th so hopefully this google apps file works with that

          • bsphil

Yeah, I just flashed that last night. Seems good so far. Cards are working better than in the last ROM. However, swiping to an app from the lock screen doesn’t seem to be working for Emails. I set the upper right slot to my Email (not Gmail) inbox, but I can’t seem to keep that saved. Others are working: the navigation one is custom and that works fine.

Definitely keeping my eye on that folder as these builds come out. Loving Jelly Bean so far!

  • Dan

This installation went fine, but now titanium is saying my phone isn’t rooted. Do I have to root my phone again?

How do I root this build?
