The AT&T Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket will soon blast into space with a new added twist when it comes to custom ROMs. Once again MIUI is penetrating another set of devices, and this time around, it found its way to the popular Galaxy S2 Skyrocket from AT&T.

MIUI is a unique UI with a whole set of fantastic features with eye-candy themes and icons. Galaxy S2 Skyrocket owners can now have that pleasure with the brand new MIUI ROM.

Developed by XDA Developers member iandr0idos, the MIUI ROM is primarily based on Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Sorry, Ice Cream Sandwich fans–this isn’t what you’re expecting yet.  But, with the gorgeous eye-popping themes and colors of MIUI, this ROM will certainly entertain you to your heart’s desire.

The ROM is still in its early stages and is not yet recommended for daily use.  Among the issues reported by the developer are the following: erratic mobile network (may or may not work), non-working camera, audio in calls don’t work, and Wi-Fi sometimes misbehaves.  (For the latter issue, there’s a suggested workaround.  Check the original development thread for more info.)

Requirements

  • Galaxy S2 Skyrocket SGH-I727, rooted and with ClockworkMod Recovery installed.  (Need help with rooting? See this guide.)
  • Fully charged battery or at least 70% battery left.
  • Backup of your personal phone data.

Instructions

  1. Download the latest version (Alpha 1) of MIUI ROM for the Galaxy S2 Skyrocket here and save it to your PC.  Do not extract the file or modify it in any way.
  2. Connect your phone to your PC via USB cable.
  3. Copy the ROM package to the internal storage of your phone (not the microSD card).
  4. Power down your phone.
  5. Reboot the phone into recovery mode. You can enter recovery mode by pressing and holding down the Volume Up, Volume Down, and Power buttons together until you see the Samsung splash screen.
  6. Create a Nandroid Backup of your existing ROM.  Do this via “Backup and restore” option in recovery mode.  Better safe than sorry.
  7. Select “wipe data/factory reset”.  Confirm the operation on the next screen.
  8. Select “install zip from sdcard”.
  9. Select “choose zip from sdcard”.
  10. Locate the MIUI package that you copied to the phone earlier and select the file.
  11. Confirm that you want to flash the file.  It may take several minutes for the installation process to finish.
  12. Select “go back”.
  13. Select “reboot system now” to reboot your phone.

Congratulations! You successfully installed MIUI (based on Android 2.3 Gingerbread) on your Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket. Enjoy the eye-popping visuals and fantastic themes that this ROM has to offer.

Paul and I.T. are synonyms. If you need help with I.T.-related stuff, call on Paul. His experience with Android phones goes way back to the ancient single-core-phone days. But, he keeps himself up to date, so now he has a dual-core beast in his pocket, and is looking forward to getting his first quad-core monster, and when it comes, his first eight-core phone. Perhaps he should be called Mr. X-Core, where "X" equals the number of CPU cores.

Facebook home is just bloody awful, pay 600 euros for hanset running jellybean, beautiful os, dump lazy launcher on it that adds little and makes phone less than useable…..good idea: NOT!
What is a good idea…launch phone with facebook launcher, free minutes talk time and free data courtesey of well placed ads….initial decrease in net profit leading to massive adoption long term increase in ad revenue. Will anyone ever dare to do this and change the way we use our gsms?

well, if the price is very low and you can replace the rom with a custom (o vanilla) one, then it may be a good idea to get one, maybe as a backup phone or for limited budgets

This actually a good budget phone. Just don’t use the “Home”. And you’ll find a pretty decent device. I kinda like the look and feel of it.

When they start throwing them away for free, I’ll get one just for the “lulz” and it has stock Android, if it’s open I’ll get a custom rom (if there is one)

  • lil bit

Its the “HTC ChaCha 2″. I knew this would happen, first of all because its too much Facebook, and second because its HTC with all the manufacturing defects and bugs that brings along.

HTC continue to amaze me with their low quality. I know of various people who bought HTCs recently, distant acquaintances, and they already regret so much, so many problems, the phones are barely working at all. I thought HTC was better now than before, the quality was so poor 2-3 years ago that it could not get any worse, and then comes the FLAGSHIP One with defective buttons, and then all these people with serious problems with other HTC models, HTC GOTTEN EVEN WORSE! You dont see this kinda defects on ZTE, ShuAway and Lenovo, why only on HTC, and why is it worse than ever?

HTC is truly “buy once, hate for life”, Quietly Defective.

  • Downtoearth2

This only shows stock android isn’t the answer . Consumers hate stock android.

    • lil bit

No they dont, stock android is popular. Its Facebook Home and HTC they hate.

For many people its a tabu to have a facebook centric device, “people might think i am addicted”, or “If i buy this people might think i dont have a life outside facebook”. Owning a First is just plain shameful, just like it would be shameful to own a dild0 phone (in public at least) or a “porn hunter” phone.

  • nishantsirohi123

seal shut a small capacity battery
and then seal shut the memory , again small capacity
    give it a mediocre camera
and then wonder why you don’t sell

  • Fred Chiang

If they’re saying they have no decisions on future plans why make the title “After only a month, AT&T planning on discontinuing HTC First”….
