From the previous UCALC4 firmware leak for the Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket SGH-I727, a new and updated firmware has surfaced. The latest Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich UCLD2 firmware has been revealed and ready to be flashed to your mobile phone.

Developers from RootzWiki have leaked the UCLD2 firmware which can be flashed via Odin3. You can flash the latest ROM without needing to root your phone. But, for those who have a rooted phone, you can also flash the ROM via ClockworkMod Recovery. Senior XDA Developers member yaldak made the updates into a flashable ZIP which you can flash using ClockworkMod Recovery.

So, if you want to update your phone to the latest firmware, continue reading the rest of this guide to learn how to flash Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich UCLD2 firmware to your Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket.

Requirements

Flashing via Odin

  1. Download the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich UCLD2 firmware here (I727UCLD2_OneClick.exe md5sum: 37827a616f222cb1e5f5673315f5f711).
  2. Click the I727UCLD2_OneClick.exe to launch Odin on your computer.
  3. Switch off your mobile phone.
  4. Reboot your Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket I727 into Download Mode. You can do that by doing the following steps:
    • Prepare your USB cable by connecting it to your computer. Do not connect your phone yet.
    • Press and hold the Volume Up key and Volume Down key on your phone simultaneously.
    • While keeping the Volume keys pressed, connect your phone to the computer via USB cable.
    • Keep pressing the Volume keys until Download Mode boots.
  5. The word “Added” will be displayed in Odin. This signals that your phone has successfully connected with your computer.
  6. Click the Start button to start flashing the UCLD2 firmware to your mobile phone.
  7. After installation is complete, the word “Pass” will be displayed on Odin. Your phone will automatically reboot. You can now disconnect your phone from the computer.

Troubleshooting

If Odin or your phone becomes unresponsive in the middle of the flashing procedure, do the following steps:

  1. Unplug your phone from the computer and close Odin.
  2. Remove the battery and wait for a few seconds.
  3. Re-insert the battery to your phone.
  4. Repeat the procedures from step 2 onwards.

Flashing via ClockworkMod Recovery

NOTE: You will be needing a rooted Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket with ClockworkMod Recovery (CWM) installed. Check out our guide on how to root your Samsung Galaxy S2 skyrocket. You can also refer to this guide on how to root your phone running Android 4.0.3 UCALC4 firmware. For ClockworkMod Recovery, check this guide on how to flash ClockworkMod Touch Recovery to your phone.

  1. Download the following to your computer:
    • Download the CWM-flashable UCLD2 package from here (skyrocket-ucld2-ics-leak.zip, md5sum: 5cb721bcacdadf7de2b0b9f041acc114).
    • Download the root fix file from here (su-bin-3.0.3.2-efghi-signed.zip, 164 kB).
    • Download the Facebook and Samsung keyboard fix here (UCLD2FontHotfix.zip, 226 kB).
  2. Copy the skyrocket-ucld2-ics-leak.zip, su-bin-3.0.3.2-efghi-signed.zip, and UCLD2FontHotfix.zip to the root of your phone’s SD card.
  3. Switch off your mobile phone.
  4. Reboot your phone into ClockworkMod Recovery. To do that, press the Volume Up key, Volume Down key, and Power button simultaneously until Recovery Mode boots. NOTE: Once in Recovery Mode, use the Volume keys to navigate and Power button to select an option.
  5. Perform a full wipe by doing the following:
    • Go to Wipe Data/Factory Reset and confirm the action on the next screen.
    • Select Wipe Cache Partition and confirm the action on the next screen.
    • From the main menu, select Advanced. From there, select Wipe Dalvik Cache and confirm the action on the next screen.
    • Go to Mounts and Storage and select Format /system on the next screen. Select Yes on the next screen to begin formatting your system.
  6. Go back to the main menu and select Install ZIP from SD Card.  Select Choose ZIP from SD Card and highlight the skyrocket-ucld2-ics-leak.zip. Confirm the action on the next screen to begin flashing the ZIP file to your phone.
  7. Repeat step 6 but this time flash su-bin-3.0.3.2-efghi-signed.zip to your phone.  You will meet an error message after flashing this file.  Just ignore the error message.
  8.  NOTE: Ignore the error after flashing this file. Just go to Superuser and make an update after booting your phone.
  9. Flash the UCLD2FontHotfix.zip file in the same manner as in step 6.
  10. After installing the 3 files, go back to the main menu and select Advanced. From there, select Fix Permissions.
  11. Go back to the main menu and select Reboot system now to restart your mobile phone.
  12. Once your phone has rebooted into Normal Mode, launch the Superuser app and update the su binaries.

Congratulations! You have successfully updated your Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket SGH-I727 to the leaked Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich firmware UCLD2.

Damn! I just installed the UCALC4 yesterday! Lol. Does anybody know what this update fixes/does?

  • Wille

Just flashed the ucld2 with odin

  • Eric

Does the phone have to be rooted before flashing with odin? I’m running 2.3.5 unrooted phone, will this work with odin?

    • Alvin Ybañez

Hi, Eric. For unrooted phone, try flashing the firmware via Odin. You don’t need a rooted phone to use Odin. Good Luck!

  • MikeB

No it does NOT need to be rooted to flash with Oden. I just upgraded to ICS 4.0 UCLD2 using the instructions above and it worked perfect.

  • Carlos Cabrera

Thanks!!! It worked great and so far no issues with the OS. I don’t bluetooth so I should be fine.

    • Tailgunner9

Tell us if you have had any Problems with it since you installed Please!!!!!!!!

  • abiaonso

i can use this for SGH-I727R Rogers?

  • Jhonvoltemort

hey there i’ve tried the odin mode and my phone didnt rebot after ” All threads completed. (succeed 1 / failed 0)” can u help me pls?

    • Alvin Ybañez

Hi, Jhonvoltemort. Did you check “Auto Reboot” under Options in Odin?

  • Andrew Gensler

Do you have to be on the UCALC4 before flashing this or can I flash directly from Gingerbread?

    • Alvin Ybañez

Hi, Andrew. The developer didn’t mention the need to be on UCALC4 before flashing the firmware. So, I guess it’s okay to flash the firmware from Gingerbread. Just create a backup prior to flashing to be safe.

    • Tailgunner9

Did not say what is different from UCALC4 either. The UCALC4 Does not work well with Bluetooth headset, locks phone the Tap & Talk program, at times. So did it fix this???

  • MikeB

NO you DO NOT have to be on UCALC4 before flashing to UCLD2. I flashed from Gingerbread and it has performed flawlessly ever since. I have not found anything that doesn’t work. My bluetooth works fine.

I did not change any options in Odin prior to flashing. I just turned it off and booted it in “download mode”, plugged in my USB cable and Odin said “added” which meant it connected to the device. Clicked Start and off it went….

  • Bklynnykid

The link for the CWM zip file is broken. Is there another location for the file?

  • MikeB

Its not broken, you need to click on the actual word “here” in the paragraph above,

    Here is is anyway: http://www.ponack.net/designgears/leaks/37827a616f222cb1e5f5673315f5f711/I727UCLD2_OneClick.exe

ALVIN – You might want to change the color of the shortcut above so its easier to find.

Didn’t work for me… I had boot loop on first boot…Maybe it doesn’t work with the I727R…

  • MuffWrecker

I flashed the ROM on my unrooted skyrocket via Odin. It gave me a lot of trouble while putting all my apps back on (losing my system bar and freezing). Once my apps and passwords were back on it was flawless. Not a single problem. Seems to use more RAM than gingerbread did, but battery life is noticeably better? Strange, but I’ll take it! Thanks guys!

  • Psandoval1984

Do i have to have windows to use odin or can I use a mac OS?

  • Jlanslide

The update went perfect but the only thing I see is that uploading apps from the Play Store through the browser causes TwLauncher to not respond as well as Play. Will be a pain to search all the apps via the play store app on the phone rather than from the browser on my desktop.

    • Jlanslide

Update .. it is working now. must have had to install one app via the play store on the phone.

Hey Alvin, I had a question. I have a Skyrocket that is rooted with ClockworkMod and I followed all the steps that you outlined. When the phone reboots it keeps looping over and over at the beginning. I can still access Clockworkmod, but I’m not sure what to do at this point.

  • cheri214

Followed the method above with success. Can’t comment on how everything is functioning just yet, as it’s a fresh install and I’m still in the process of restoring my old apps/settings.

As the official AT&T ICS 4.0.4 version was recently released, I figured I would go legit, to be on the safe side in case there were any inconsistencies to be found down the line with this version. Also, it was an upgrade from 4.0.3 to 4.0.4, and since it is official AT&T, I figured it must mean harmony with my phone.

However, my experience (with AT&T’s ICS 4.0.4) has been far from such a Utopia! It has lacked the smooth and flawless experience I’ve had with THIS “leaked” version. I’ve had a number of small and inconsistent issues mainly to do with Bluetooth problems, and some dysfunctional apps. I had NO issues with the leaked 4.0.3!

Therefore, I have reverted back to this leaked version, and again, it was a breeze! Admittedly, I did “Fail” the first few attempts at installation with Odin. However, I simply followed the advice above – to unplug phone > remove battery (wait a few secs.) > replace battery > restart Odin… – but, before I was able to successfully flash this leaked version, I found: I had to restart the phone (while unplugged from PC) and enter recovery mode (hold volume up & down while restarting – in my case, I had Clockwork Mod Recovery installed on my phone, and entered its recovery mode; I’m not sure if there is some sort of stock recovery mode…), and from there, I wiped all my data and my cache 3x each, for good measure. Then, I again followed the steps detailed via this tutorial without a problem, and Passed!
