Members of the Android community have been known to be quick on their feet, and that certainly hasn’t stopped from being true. Whenever new updates are released for software, dedicated Android developers make sure that new ROMs follow in their wake. This means that Android users will be able to enjoy a progressive Android experience, incorporating a lot of the fixes that new software updates bring with them.

Samsung Galaxy Note (GT-N7000) users should be pleased that today, it’s their device’s turn to shine with a new ROM fresh out of the XDA Developers forums.

The jBroiCS N7000 Edition 1.0 ROM was developed by XDA Developers senior member jblanc. An AOSP ROM, jBroiCS packs tweaks such as a Bravia Engine mod, DSPManager, Invertus Theme v2.0, and jBroid Engine v4.0.

Because this ROM is rather new and still under development, there are still some bugs that need fixing. Some users’ complaints include trouble with Bluetooth pairing, where pairing with headphones is possible but no sound can be heard on the headphones, and being unable to connect to a mobile network. Future updates should solve these bugs.

If you’re running on I9220LP1 firmware, then you’re in luck. This ROM requires the I9220LP1 firmware to install properly. If you aren’t running on this firmware yet, you’ll need to upgrade so that you can enjoy jblanc’s jBroiCS ROM.

Warning

  • The jBroiCS N7000 Edition 1.0 custom ROM is compatible only with the Samsung Galaxy Note, model number GT-N7000. You may check your model number through Settings > About Phone. If your device is not the Galaxy Note, model number N7000, do not attempt to flash this ROM as it may lead to bricking your device.
  • Use these instructions at your own risk.  We hold no responsibility if you damage your phone.

Requirements

  • Samsung Galaxy Note GT-N7000 running on ICS firmware and with ClockworkMod Recovery installed
    • If you’re still on a Gingerbread-based ROM, upgrade your phone to ICS via leaked firmware I9220LP1.
    • If you’re already on an AOSP-based ROM (imilka base), do nothing.
  • Flashing this ROM may wipe the data on your Galaxy Note so make sure to create a backup.
  • A fully charged battery. This prevents your Galaxy Note from shutting off in the middle of the flashing process.
  • Download the jBroiCS N7000 Edition 1.0 custom ROM from here or here (jBroiCS_N7000_Ed-1.0.zip, 246 MB)

Instructions

  1. Download the jBroiCS ROM to your computer.
  2. Copy the jBroiCS ROM to the Galaxy Note’s internal SD.
  3. Turn off your Galaxy Note.
  4. Boot into Recovery Mode. You can do this by pressing and holding down the Volume Up and OK buttons as you press the Power button.
  5. Once in recovery, select Wipe Data/Factory Reset.
  6. Select Wipe Cache.
  7. Select Install Zip from SD Card >  Choose Zip from SD Card.  Select the ROM package file.  Confirm that you want to start flashing.  Wait for about 5 to 10 minutes for the flashing to complete.
  8. Once flashing is complete, select Go Back.
  9. Select Reboot System Now.

Your Samsung Galaxy Note GT-N7000 is now equipped with jBroiCS N7000 Edition 1.0 custom ROM and running on Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich. If you’re bothered by the ROM’s font size, you can make fonts larger through Settings > Display > Front size > Huge. This should make the font easier on the eyes. If you get stuck in a boot loop, jblanc suggests pressing and holding down the Power button for 10 seconds.

Congratulations and enjoy!
