The Galaxy Galapad is a clone I would be happy to own!

There was a time when a $200 Chinese tablet would be nothing more than an unresponsive touchscreen hot glued to a wobbly casing. But the past few years have seen a huge change and now even clones are worth buying!

The Galaxy Galapad obviously takes some inspiration from the Nexus 7 and Samsung Galaxy range of tablets, but rather than attempting to just emulate the look of those tablets, the Galapad has some guts to match.

Under the 7 inch 1024 x 600 IPS display sits the same Nvidia Tegra 3 quad-core CPU you would find in the Nexus 7. There is also 1GB RAM, a 3500mAh battery, and even a front facing 2 mega-pixel camera.

Android 4.1 Jelly Bean comes as standard, however Galaxy have announced that they intend to offer an upgrade to 4.2 in the new year.

So the Galaxy Galapad has the looks, the hardware and the updates, now if they can work on reducing the price and ensuring good quality, the real Nexus 7 might have to watch out!

I don’t recommend any Chinese tablet, I bought one 1 month ago, after 2 weeks of usage it freezed while playing a game, nothing could make it to restart even holding the power button, I tried to disconnect the battery after opening it, it turned out to be attached, I let it to run out of battery, after that it didn’t boot up, waste of 200$

      eek
display also kinda looks washed out in that photo, but if they get the price right it could be nice.

So for $200 you get a crappy display and whatever version of Android this no-name OEM has decided to put on the tablet (who knows how they’ve modified it). The specs are nice enough if it was cheap enough to use it for children or as a tinkering tab, but why would anyone buy this over a Nexus7?

Is there any reason at all to get this 1024 X 600 tablet over the Nexus 7? I can’t think of a single reason for the life of me. No one should waste their money on this. Not even if it’s $99.

Disposable tablets I think. So when you’re out working in high-risk areas, you wouldn’t mind if these tablets are stolen/destroyed/etc.

After using BB Playbook, I swear I’ll never buy 7″ tablet with resolution lower than 1280×800 (Nexus 7)

I met the GM of the company that has brought this to market. They are a major market share holder in video acceleration cards, a primary customer of Nvidia, and technically well supported by Nvidia in the launch of this tablet. It has great battery life, SD memory card port, mini HD out port, screen touch response was good, wifi was fast. It is not their intention for this to be considered a clone. They want to build a branded business.
