One of the perks of Android is that old devices will rarely be forgotten. The Samsung Galaxy Ace GT-S5830 still has a lot of users who love it and don't want to part from it just yet, but after using it for so long, even the most dedicated users can feel that their device is starting to feel dated. Thankfully, XDA Developers members have ways of helping you reinvent your phone. One of them is through XDA Developers member tamingsari2k's DEMOCRACY-NT ROM.
Based on CyanogenMod 7.2, the the NT in the ROM's name stands for Non-Transparent. The developer has included a Firekernel OC, an icon titlebar, swapped out some icons in the Settings menu, and integrated Adrenaline Engine 4.4. The default browser has also been replaced with Dolphin 9.0.1 and you can enjoy the latest Google Search and Ice Cream Sandwich progress bar.
The DEMOCRACY-NT ROM is certainly attractive thanks to the Holo Launcher 1.2.6 and can give you a great music experience thanks to the Beats audio engine, Alsa, and AudioFXwidget. A number of tweaks have also been made to Superuser, the Gmail app, and the Email app.
The Lite version is also based on CyanogenMod 7 and has Firekernel, but it doesn't have Beats audio, Alsa, build.prop tweaks, and some audio files. A number of apps have also been removed to really give you that lite experience. It does, however, have a blue icon phone option, an invisible task manager and modified UI to match Ice Cream Sandwich's colors, a Jelly Bean status bar, and a dark-themed Superuser app and Google Play Store. There have also been fixes for unreadable text and the graphic bug dialer.

Requirements
- Samsung Galaxy Ace GT-S5830 running on stock Android 2.3 Gingerbread with ClockworkMod Recovery 5 and higher installed. For additional help, check our guide on how to flash ClockworkMod Recovery for the Galaxy Ace S5830.
- Download the version of the DEMOCRACY ROM that suits you:
- Make sure your device's battery still has at least 70% power. You don't want the device to shut down in the middle of the procedure.
- Backup all personal data on your phone to make sure you have a copy of your personal data (e.g., contacts, SMS, MMS, Internet settings, Wi-Fi passwords, and the like) in case the procedure in this guide erases such data.
Instructions
Flashing DEMOCRACY-NT ROM
- Copy the DEMOCRACY-NT ROM to your phone's SD card.
- Turn off your Galaxy Ace.
- Boot the phone into Recovery Mode by holding down the Home and Power buttons. When you see the Samsung logo, release the Power button but still hold down the Home button.
- Make a NANDroid Backup by selecting Backup and Restore > Backup.
- Select Wipe Data/Factory Reset > Yes.
- Select Wipe Cache Partition > Yes.
- Select Advanced > Wipe Dalvik Cache.
- Select Mounts and Storage > Format /system.
- Select Mounts and Storage > Mount /data.
- Select Install ZIP from SD card > Choose ZIP from SD card > select the DEMOCRACY-NT ROM > Yes.
- Select Go Back > Reboot System Now.
Flashing DEMOCRACY-NT Lite ROM
- Copy the DEMOCRACY-NT Lite ROM and the Superuser DEMOCRACY-NT Lite file to your phone's SD card.
- Turn off your Galaxy Ace.
- Boot into Recovery Mode by holding down the Home and Power buttons. When you see the Samsung logo, release the Power button but still hold down the Home button.
- Make a NANDroid Backup by selecting Backup and Restore > Backup.
- Select Wipe Data/Factory Reset > Yes.
- Select Wipe Cache Partition > Yes.
- Select Advanced > Wipe Dalvik Cache.
- Select Mounts and Storage > Format /system.
- Select Mounts and Storage > Mount /data.
- Select Install ZIP from SD card > Choose ZIP from SD card > select the DEMOCRACY-NT Lite ROM > Yes.
- Select Go Back > Reboot System Now.
- Boot back into Recovery Mode.
- Select Mounts and Storage > Mount /system.
- Select Install ZIP from SD card > Choose ZIP from SD card > select the Superuser file > Yes.
- Select Go Back > Reboot System Now.
