The T-Mobile LG G2x P999 officially came out running Android 2.2 Froyo but later was upgraded to Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Neither the sweet Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich nor the chewy Android 4.1 Jelly Bean official updates made it to the phone — at least not officially.

With the help of independent developers, the latest Android treats have been ported to the phone and can be enjoyed via popular custom ROMs such as CyanogenMod and AOKP.

Recognized XDA Developers  member Benee has successfully compiled a CyanogenMod 10 ROM for the T-Mobile LG G2x LGP999. Flashing this ROM will let you enjoy the delightful treats of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean on your phone. But, delightful as it seems, the ROM still faces some issues, such as:

  • Project Butter
  • Video playback
  • Camcorder
  • Hardware acceleration

If you're okay with those lacking features, go ahead and try this custom ROM on your mobile phone.

In this guide, learn how to upgrade the LG G2x P999 to Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean via CyanogenMod 10 (unofficial).

  4. Create a NANDroid backup of your current ROM. From the main recovery menu, select Backup and Restore and select Backup on the next screen. Wait until the backup process is done.
  5. Go back to the main menu and perform a full wipe:
    • Select Wipe data/factory reset and confirm the action on the next screen.
    • Select Wipe cache partition and confirm the action on the next screen.
    • Go back to the main menu and select Advanced. From there, select Wipe Dalvik cache and confirm the action on the next screen.
  6. Go back to the main menu and select Install ZIP from external SD card.
  7. Select Choose ZIP from SD card and locate the cm-9.9.9-JB-p999-2.zip file. Confirm the action on the next screen to flash the ROM to your mobile phone.
  8. Return to the main menu and flash the Jelly Bean GApps package in the same manner as in steps 6 and 7.
  9. Go back to the main menu and select Reboot system now to restart your phone.

Congratulations! You have successfully updated your T-Mobile LG G2x P999 to Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean via the CyanogenMod 10 ROM.

I’m a newb…but I’ve successfully installed many rom’s. This, by far, is the best. It is extremely smooth (for the 1st time I understand what they’re talking about). No crashes. Still don’t understand quite a bit. Would like to overclock but quite happy with what this rom offers. Phone BT would be nice but I understand it’s a LG/Nv driver issue. You gotta download..It’s 4.5 out of 5 stars in my book.

Has to do with your Baseband. If you have the newest baseband which is March 11 2012 then you’re out of luck, BUT if you wish to really try this your best bet is to downgrade your baseband. Simply google “LG G2x Baseband” and tons of info you will find.

    • mperez

Did you figure out how to fix it? I’m having the same problem

  • Taylor Spencer

Bad News! I need some help ASAP. I followed all the steps except my clockworkmod was in the app version, only accesable with phone turned on and selecting reboot in clockworkmod recovery mode. I followed he steps and turned it back on but it stuck with the LG color background and wont progress. Nothing. Please help!

    • mperez

Trying using NVflash and reboot to clockworkmod. Unfortunately the app version is not a legit version. Once you reboot follow the steps again and it should install successfully!

  • Kelvin

    Hi Alvin,

I have a P999 (Wind/TMobile G2X)…, Tks. for the ROM, I have installed it and got everything to work except the GPS and the WiFi tethering. Has anyone got these functions working?

    Thanks,
    Kelvin

    • Kelvin

Got the GPS to work… not sure what happened… I had to wipe cache and re-install everything… also, loaded apps from Titanium backup.
Now all that’s left is the Wifi Access Point. Every time I attempt to enable it. Wifi is already on and it looks as if it is attempting to turn it on. It seems to get stuck there. Then I cannot enable Wifi anymore. I literally have to reboot the phone to clear the fault.
      Any suggestions anyone?
      Kelvin

      • Ryan Alberts

For me to get the GPS working I did… Services -> GPS Source -> Click on the internal gps option (probably the only option)

  • Cache74

Is there a fix for bluetooth?

    • Guntert

      can anyone help with bluetooth??

  • bluebee

Step # 3 reset my phone to factory default but I didn’t see any main menu where I could choose the zip files. Can someone please advise what I am missing.

    Thank you

  • Faisal

Hi, after the installation of cm-9.9.9-JB-p999-2.zip, my phone rebooted itself and now is stuck at screen with LG logo on it, not moving for last half an hour. Any suggestion ?

  • LanceMiller

If this is be best I can expect I might as well just buy a used Galaxy Nexus, now that all the Nexus 4 users will be selling their.

    • Kristoff119

Exactly, did that 3 months ago.

  • http://www.facebook.com/bill.knaffl Bill Knaffl

I did this and while I LOVE it, there are two main issues that I am struggling to address: battery life and wifitethering. still staying with it – just gotta go get more detail on how to resolve this issue.

    • http://www.facebook.com/bill.knaffl Bill Knaffl

Couldnt find a way to get Wifi Tethering (a must) and GPS (also a must) to work. So back to one of of the other roms. Also if there is an update – someone PLEASE let me know. I love this ROM, but /sigh…..

      • Ryan Alberts

To fix the GPS go to Location Services -> GPS Source -> Click on the internal gps option (probably the only option). You should be good to go! Enjoy!

  • inba

@alvin ybanez is there any possibility of getting further update on this. really the video playback is a must to have.

Hi, I love this ROM on my LG G2x. The only issue I am having is “Low on Storage Space.” I have tried stopping Apps, clearing Cache, uninstalling unwanted Apps, but still it is giving the same message “Low on Storage Space! There is not enough storage space available to complete this action.” Please help.
