I just received a note from T-Mobile’s PR firm that says that the T-Mobile G1 will be available in all T-Mobile retail locations as well as “eligible” retail partner locations starting on January 24.

This means that you don’t have to live in a 3G coverage area in order to check out the G1 in person before you buy one.  Currently people outside of T-Mobile’s 3G coverage area can only purchase a G1 if they order one from T-Mobile’s website.
