It may feel like they are really late to the game, but Verizon has finally started rolling out the Android 4.4.2 KitKat update to their branded version of the LG G Pad 8.3 LTE. That’s quite a mouthful to say. The update will get you to software version VK81022A and is said to improve the performance of your LTE Tablet.
Android 4.4.2 KitKat brings with it a few key and significant changes, and some subtle ones too. The new Immersive Mode brings a true full screen experience to supported apps, updated cloud print options empower many business users and multi-user mode helps you create a safe environment for your children on the tablet.
Of less significance, you will notice a new color for your battery icon and a few wording and layout tweaks to things like the accessibility settings.
LG infused a bit of their own flavor into the update. I am excited to announce that you will now have access to LG’s Knock Code functionality. We’ve covered Knock Code a few times now, it is a feature that is really growing on me. Here is a video showing what it is all about.
In addition, this update addresses the normal smattering of bug fixes and performance improvements, such as a SIM card bug when connecting to WiFi. Go ahead and look into all of the features of Android 4.4.2 KitKat and the capabilities of apps like the Google Now Launcher made possible with the update.
Verizon is staggering the update, if you do not see it in your settings menu now, don’t worry, it’ll be there soon. Root users should take the appropriate precautions and expect any root changes made to prevent this update, or at least to remove your root permissions.
Once you get the update, let us know what you think, what’s your favorite new feature? Users of the non-Verizon G Pad 8.3 that already have the KitKat update, any suggestions for the new users to try out?
