How many of you have been forced to share a Google account with your family members, just because you don’t want to keep paying for the same apps and content multiple times? This workaround serves its purpose, but it is a very sloppy way to do something many of us believe should come as a standard feature. Today Google makes this possible as Google IO goes full sail.

The search giant’s ‘Set up prices & app distribution’ page has been updated with information regarding “Family Library”. This is a new system that would allow users to share app purchases with up to 6 other devices! Google’s support page states that all app purchases made after July 2nd will be available to share under Family Library. Purchases made before this date will have to be made available by the developer. App makers can do this by taking the following steps:

  1. Sign in to your Google Play Developer Console.
  2. Select an app.
  3. Select Pricing & Distribution.
  4. In the “Family Library” section, select the checkbox.

Google will probably share more about this as IO details continue to unwrap, and so we will be sure to update this post when we learn more. Hopefully we get details on a possible launch date for Family Library. Are you excited for this new system? I know I will be taking advantage of it. Keep it tuned to Android Authority for more Google IO news!
