ECS netbook will offer Android

picture-10Computex looks like a really good show, and ECS have on display a prototype of their 8.1 inch T800 netbook offering. The prototype device is not in working order, but the build is comparable to what the finished version will be like. It looks wonderful and would appear to resemble the Sony Vaio P a bit. Even though the T800 is a puny 800g (1.76lb) light, it still manages to pack a 2.5 inch SATA hard drive and 512MB of RAM. Our best guess is that the hard-drive may be swapped for an SSD as well. On top of this, the Texas Instruments CPU comes in two flavors: 800mhz and 1ghz.

The video below shows the prototype device, which is alleged to run Android as the operating system. Unfortunately, however, Android is not displayed in the flesh, so we’ll have to take their word on it for now. Enjoy!

Looks lovely, would work well with a built-in 3G modem as a bigger Pocketsurfer, but it appears to have bluetooth builtin (the footage around 2:00 shows activity indicators), so you could use your normal mobile I guess.

I know that Sony screens are highly reflective, but this almost seems mirrored – I’d hope that when it gets to market ECS go for a more matte option.
