After a rollercoaster ride made of various Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade rumors for the Motorola Droid RAZR and RAZR Maxx, we can finally confirm that the two Android handsets will get Android 4.0.4 in the following days.

Verizon has posted software upgrade instructions for the handsets on its website, and you should prepare your RAZR version for the upcoming over-the-air (OTA) download.Β The carrier details two ways of getting the OTA upgrade: OTA User Initiated and OTA Server Initiated.

OTA User Initiated

  1. From the Home screen, tap the Menu Key > tap Settings > About phone > System updates > Download.
  2. Once the download has completed, tap Install now. The device will power off and back on and show a progress bar and an installing icon. Once installation is complete the device powers off and back on again, finalizing the installation.
  3. You will get a confirmation on the screen that your install was successful, then tap OK

OTA Server Initiated

  1. You will be notified that a system update is available on your device. Tap Download to begin.
  2. Once the download has completed, tap Install now. The device will power off and back on and show a progress bar and an installing icon. Once installation is complete the device powers off and back on again, finalizing the installation.
  3. You will get a confirmation on the screen that your install was successful, then tap OK.

As you can see, there are little differences between the manual and automatic OTA download, and the end result is the same, your Droid RAZR or RAZR Maxx will finally run ICS.
