Reality sucks when you can only enjoy the latest Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and HTC Sense 4.0 from newly released or high-end Android phones. That leaves our older Android phones far off from civilization. But, thanks to independent developers, the latest treats have been ported to our older Android phones. The Primo-S 3.4 custom ROM, developed by senior XDA Developers member, proxuser, brings Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich with HTC Sense 4.0 to the HTC Desire S.

The dev based it on the leaked official HTC One V ROM (1.56.401.1), bringing the latest Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich and HTC Sense 4.0 into to the HTC Desire S. The updated Primo-S 3.4 ROM carries the following:

  • Updated Gmail 4.0.5
  • Updated Google Maps 6.5.1
  • Updated Street View 1.7.2.0
  • Updated Adblock Hosts
  • Google Chrome 0.18.4409.2396 added
  • Google+ 2.5.0.329322 added
  • Google Currents 1.1.0 added
  • Google Books removed
  • and much more

If you’d like to get the Primo-S 3.4 ROM on your HTC Desire S, continue reading the rest of this guide for instructions for flashing it to your device.

Requirements

  • Download the Primo-S 3.4 ROM from here (PrimoS-v3.4.zip, md5sum: f6083336ef4e7fcea903328166a9dbfb).
  • A rooted HTC Desire S with ClockworkMod Recovery installed. Check out this guide on how to root and flash ClockworkMod Recovery on your HTC Desire S.
  • Create a backup of your mobile phone data or transfer your files to the phone’s SD card prior to flashing the ROM. Read our guide on how to sync your mobile data to the cloud and how to create a backup of your phone files.
  • Maintain battery charge of 70% or more.

didn’t work for me unfortunately. Stuck at the HTC screen after flashing

  • Peterhevesi 147

No, I think it works… It stucks at the HTC screen, but after you wait a few minutes, it will load eventually… Just be patient :) Gonna check what is working, and what not…

  • B00029718

I have tried multiple times but still freezes at the HTC white screen :(

I have managed to flash cyanogenmod 7 but need a proper ROM as I cannot get WiFi working. RipperV2 didn’t work either

Has anyone got this to work? I did exactly as instructed above, and can’t get past the HTC splash screen, even going into revolutionary and trying to restore just ends up stuck on the splash screen! Is this something to do with the HBOOT version? As I’m currently on 2.00.0002 and I’ve read that I maybe need an older version? Except I can’t roll it back now as I can’t turn it on!
    Anyone have any ideas?

  • Peterhevesi 147

Yeah, as I said before, it works for me.. I had to wait about 2 or 3 minutes after the flash, but now it boots quite fast… And how come you can have HBOOT 2.00.0002 and revolutionary at the same time??? Because revolutionary doesn’t work for HBOOT 2.00.002.. It works only for HBOOT 0.98.0000 or HBOOT 0.98.0002… I had to downgrade first, and only after that, I could get revolutionary: http://revolutionary.io/

And btw now, after getting revolutionary, I have HBOOT-6.98.1002…
And I am not sure if this is the reason why you can’t run it, but it might be… If you have any questions regarding proper rooting with revolutionary or downgrading to older version of HBOOT, please feel free to ask…

If your stuck on the white HTC boot screen, flash the boot.img kernel. Extract it from the zip file kernelsaga boot into recovery fastboot and execute ‘fastboot flash boot boot.img’

  • B00029718

I now have an Endy rom running smoothly.

I extracted the boot.img file to the adb folder and ran the cmd from there (hold shift and right click from any blank space within the folder and select run command line from here)

Deleted all cache and ran the zip from clockwork.

Took about 5 mins and Endy launched. Has been stable since

camera not worked .any one please help me?

  • Sag123

How does I get my camera to work? It’s just a black screen…

  • Miguel

Guys if you are stuck in HTC screen just flash boot.img separately by fastboot !! You have fastboot flasher it’s the easiest mode !! Camera doesn’t work……….yet, maybe 3weeks , the developer needs Kernel v3 :D

  • Dogshark

Got the ROM installed. It boots ok and you get the lock screen. But when you unlock it gets stuck on a tips screen which will not exit. Only functions accessable are the power menu by pressing the power button. Volume buttons also work. SO close yet so far. Please advise ?!?!?!?

  • Andrew Devine

OK. Got the ROM installed and working after some difficulty. Probably my own fault. Nice effort I must say, looks and works nice.
    But some notable bugs.
    1. Phone app does not support sound. You can make a call but you can’t hear anything an no one can hear you.
    2. Camera doesn’t work. Tried several apps and nothing.

    And a couple of questions.
I downloaded the 3.4 zip file but after install phone says v3.3. Why?
Why does this version of Android 4.0 not include face unlock feature? I suspect this may because of hardware limitations of the Desire S but just wanted to check.

  • agc

its possible to have the original version of android of the desire hd (2.2) back its because i need the camera function

cant download.. says file not found

  • Jurgen Oerlemans

Followed the instructions above for my desire S; works perfect.
If you got stuck on tips screen, you probably did not correctly do step 9, 10, 11. I had that too. Second attempt; did all the wiping and erasing –> no problems

    • Eu Vid

Did the camera app work for you? I love this custom ROM, but unfortunately it lacks the camera feature of the phone, which is in top 5 for me and everyone else

  • foutarab

    any news about camera?

  • Marc Remijn

Works! First got stuck on white HTC screen. But I flashed the kernel afterwards in fastboot. Now it works. Phone works, WiFi ok, only camera doesn’t work (black screen).
