The TV used to be the center of our digital universe, but these day smartphones reign supreme. TV sets are now being given away as freebies to incentivize people to buy phones. How’s that for a bizarre turn of events?
Best Buy is offering a free 32-inch TV to customers who purchase the Samsung Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 Edge. The deal is valid for the unlocked versions of the two phones or through monthly installments plans for AT&T, Verizon, or Sprint.
Obviously, the free TV set is no top of the range; Samsung’s UN32J4500 LED Smart HDTV normally costs $199. If you want something bigger, you can upgrade to a UN48J5200, a 48-inch unit with a Full HD panel (as opposed to 720p on the free model) and pay $250 extra.
Either way, $200 off is a solid deal on what many consider the best Android phone of the year. Just add the S7 or S7 Edge to your cart on BestBuy.com and the free TV will be added automatically.
This deal shows the lengths retailers and manufacturers are now going to convince customers to buy new devices. With a general market slowdown that has affected everyone from HTC to Apple, generous deals are one way deep-pocketed players can keep sales moving. Above all, Samsung is using deals like this, and a variety of marketing stunts, to reverse a year of mobile sales decline.
The free TV deal is valid on Best Buy through June 4. Happy shopping!
