Welcome to your weekly ‘crowdfunding project of the week’ post. In this article series we aim to curate a list of the hottest Kickstarter and Indiegogo campaigns. These sites are full of interesting and innovative products, but they also have no shortage of crazy ideas. It’s our job to bring the best to your attention, and today we are taking a look at a pretty awesome looking speaker.

Other features crowdfunding projects:

They call it SOUNDBOKS, and the makers claim this thing is as loud as the all-caps name entail. Just don’t confuse this for a portable speaker, even if it can run on a battery and operate wirelessly. The SOUNDBOKS speaker is as large as it is loud. There’s a lot to gain from the sacrifice on portability, though.

Let’s start with the basics: sound. This thing is powerful. In fact, it is loud enough to take to a festival or throw a street party. At 119 decibels of volume, it is twice as loud as a night club! And you can use it either wirelessly via Bluetooth or connect it using the traditional AUX input standard, so there are few limitations here.

Because the SOUNDBOKS speaker is designed to be taken around and be handled in chaotic environments, it had to be made very durable, and that it is. This speaker is resistant to water, dust, shock, snow and even extreme temperatures.

And what is a good speaker without good battery life, right? If you are taking this to parties, you better make sure it won’t give up before your guests. The SOUNDBOKS is said to average at about 30 hours of battery life.

You can lower the volume to a medium level and squeeze 100 hours, or go full volume and party for 8 hours. All without plugging the speaker in. And if your celebration does outlast the speaker, it’s just as easy to switch out the removable battery.

So, what’s the damage? SOUNDBOKS is expected to retail for $699, but backers can get it for as low as $419. Of course, all those early bird spots are taken, but there are still options to get it for $459 or $499. Are you signing up?
