For a little over a week now we’ve seen Expansys putting up the HTC Butterfly on its online European stores, bringing the hope to many that the Butterfly will indeed spread its wings and fly to the continent, despite what initial reports said.

We hope you haven’t gotten too attached with the thought of owning the 5-inch smartphone soon, as Expansys has decided to cancel all pre-orders of the phone. Why, Expansys, why?

It turns out HTC has confirmed to Expansys that it’s not going to release the Butterfly for the European markets. Those who have pre-ordered the phone should be receiving the not-so-pleasant message below, if they haven’t already got it.

“Thank you for your recent interest and preorder of the HTC Butterfly. Unfortunately, we have now been informed by HTC that this device will not be available in European markets, and as such we have had to remove it from our website and cancel your preorder.”

And just like that, all traces of the HTC Butterfly on their websites have been removed, crushing the dreams of many HTC enthusiasts in Europe and making it easier to root for the other camp instead.

How disappointed are you with HTC’s decision not to make its flagship handset available in Europe? Please leave your thoughts and comments below.

It may come in a slightly different form and a name. HTC Deluxe? (Hopefully)

They almost certainly would rename it for Europe anyway. The name might have no impact on hardware performance, but I’m not so sure it would help sales much either having a relatively daft name like “Butterfly”.
