Although I am an android user at heart, I really want to give Windows Phone a chance.
Can anyone recommend a cheap but decent entry phone for me? Its definitely not going to be my daily driver, but I was to give the WP experience a good go.
    Thanks in advance.

My firend has the nokia lumia 520....
It's working both smooth and long. For 99$ it's definitely a very good phone to give WP a chance!
The camera is OK. Signal strenght too; only the internal storage sucks but thanks god you can extend it...

I have looked at the 520 and the 530, both seem pretty good.

Android is unusable with 512MB of RAM. Make sure it's not the same case with WP before you buy it.

you would be right if he would want an android phone... but he wants an windows phone! Windows phone 8&8.1 both run perfectly even on very low range hardware. WP is well known for that!

In my view you should give the Lumia 630/635 a try, it's a great phone and runs Windows 8.1 out of the box + supports a MicroSD card upto 128GB. Though it has a few shortcomings like no front facing camera and a few more stuff but as you said you wont be using it as your daily driver. So I'd say its better that you use a Windows 8.1 device because it's way better than Windows 8.
I hope u enjoy the Windows experience!

I think I'm going to go with the 635 because of the 4g.
