So I downloaded the hola and the tunnel bear VPNs and everything was going fine. Then I noticed that even when I don't have any of them running I can access blocked websites like YouTube and when I open the apps to turn on/off the VPN it won't let me check the permissions box, as a result I am unable to turn off my VPN and it's a big burden on my battery. I even tried uninstalling the apps, clearing the cache partition, all of the cache and rebooting my phone, but nothing is working. And now my battery drains very quickly. I don't want to perform a factory reset and I can't stand it anymore. My phone is not rooted and its a galaxy s5.Please help.

The VPN can't possibly work without the client. The problem isn't your VPN, it's something else.

You can't kill it with a task manager? Did you get an error when you tried to uninstall? Did you set it as device administrator?

Edit: I guess I should clarify..were you actually able to uninstall the vpn clients?

I don't know what a task manager is. I didn't get an error when I uninstalled it. No, I didn't set it up as device administrator. BTW I factory reset my phone and I still have this problem. The VPN clients I was using were hola and tunnel bear.

If you uninstalled it, how do you know it's the vpn causing the issue? Did you go to your power options in settings and see what it tells you is using battery?
