Been pretty silent about this issue for a while now, but that huge amount of spam in the general technology section... Wow. Can the staff be more proactive about banning spammers here? I've seen tons of posters acting as normal posters but injecting a URL or website name at the end of their posts. I would name some, but I don't want to get anyone banned, just in case I'm wrong. You can tell who's a spammers, who's not pretty easily. Also a another thing. Can the staff be more active or St least interact with the community more ? The most active staff here (that I've seen) is Luka or Rob. Joe is not very active, maybe here once a week. Everyone else is pretty much dead (or at least, that's what it looks like). The staff might be working behind the scenes, I've see Jace answer a couple threads here in a Q&A video. But still it'd be nice to see staff who work at the site actually use the forums :/

Some great points there, Mewtwo. I would love to pick the brains of Kevin the Tech Ninja or Joshua every once in a while.
Another thing, less LG G3 videos. I understand that LG is funding paid promotion, but they aren't even subtle. And 10 min videos explaining every little feature? Come on. You guys must see the hate on YouTube for them.
Sorry for derailing the thread, Mewtwo.

Hey Mewtwo, we are working on the spam problem ASAP as I said here:
    http://www.androidauthority.com/community/threads/spamming-in-forums.4120/

Its tricky to read every reply and catch them all, and we do rely somewhat on the report system. I try my best, but feel free to report anything you find suspicious.

As for other staff meembers, I'll try and drag them over here :p

    Also, moved thread to feedback/suggestions.

That's no so much the problem, as it is that the spam comes on thick and fast all of a sudden. All I/we have to do it look away for 10 or 20 minutes and there can be 25 spam articles by the time a moderator comes back.

As the community is still small, we're working on finding a way to prevent the amount spam to begin with, rather than having a high moderator to member ratio. As the community grows we will of course need more moderators, so we'll see how things play out.

Yes that would help, the moderator tools for the forum need a little work.

I've asked Darcy at one point; how come @Joshua Vergara isn't here as much. He told me that Joshua has a lot on his plate. I can imagine that this goes for everyone else here. Most of these guys if not all have a day job separate of this. It take a lot of time to bring all the content to Android Authority and considering how time consuming forums are, i kind of understand why we don't see theme here as much. That said i am confident that with time, as the community grows; we will see a lot more involvement from the AA staff.

@dejkirkby about the LG 3 thing. I think i made the same argument about the Moto X back when it came out. At one point every other post was about the Moto X and it was getting on my nerves. I probably don't see it with the LG G3 now because i like the phone. When a phone comes out it's only natural to assume that it will be trending (i hate myself for using that word :D ) so you will see a lot of post's about it. AA tries to bring the content that's in demand and well, at the moment it's the G3.
    That said, i don't think it's that bad :p

When it come's to spam; i assure you that we (I mean Derek) is working on it. It's easy to make limitations to new forum users but it's just as easy to irritate new members with the same restrictions. We are exploring what would work best and how to balance it.

I know that the AA team, and not just the ones that star in the videos, work really hard and I really appreciate the effort. I just think it would be nice to interact with them, even on an extremely limited basis.
With the LG G3 issue, I realise the G3 is the latest star in the Android sky, but when there is around 10 videos focussing on each little (and sometimes very minor) upgrade in tech or software it becomes pandering. Couple that with the fact the very same videos are sponsored by the product on review, a lot of people feel it is biased and sycophantic.

I am going to implement new spam measures in place in the coming days. As for the staff not being around, I totally hear you on this. It is summer and many from the team are taking their vacations. We will sure to bring this up at our next meeting and you can expect more interactions from the staff.

While Derek is doing his thing, we're catching them as we can Mewtwo. I'm going through right now, hopefully I can get most, if not all, new spam since Luka and Rob rolled through.

How about implementing a system where if you're new you have to either
    A) Answer a captcha
    B) wait X minutes/hours/days
    C) restrict how much threads/posts(?) you can post with likes (I. E. You can only post 1 thread a day until you get 5 likes or something, then you can post 2 and so on)
Can be configured accordingly, you can make it for either threads or posts
Might feel restricting to new and genuine users though.
