Samsung’s response to Apple’s iPad mini was unveiled at MWC 2013 – the Galaxy Note 8.0 – where we had a chance to play with the device, whose existence wasn’t really a secret as we got ready for the official announcement.

At the event, we only took the white version for a first hands-on preview and we compared it with the iPad mini and the Nexus 7, but today we’re going to show you the Charcoal Black Galaxy Note 8 version that was apparently leaked.

The black Galaxy Note 8 is yet to be confirmed by Samsung, but considering that the iPad mini comes in black and white we wouldn’t be surprised to see this Charcoal Black model become official. Not to mention that Samsung is already used to launching differently colored versions of its newest devices at some time after the official announcement, so a black Galaxy Note 8 would make plenty of sense.

In case you haven’t been keeping tabs on MWC 2013 this week, we’ll remind you that the Galaxy Note 8 will feature an 8-inch display with 1280 x 800 resolution, 1.6GHz quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, 16/32GB memory, microSD support up to 64GB, 5-megapixel camera, 1.3-megapixel rear-facing camera, voice call support, 4600mAh battery and Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean.

Will you buy a Galaxy Note 8 this year?

    Dem physical buttons.

I think I understand Samsung’s logic behind putting them on there (the “Galaxy” look/keeping Apple from suing again) but they just look truly awful on something this big. I have a Note II, so when I first heard about the Note 8.0 I was immediately excited but I just cannot get my head around having a device that’s got a 8″ screen rocking physical buttons rather than the typical on-screen navigation bar (or PIE if this gets a PARANOID build.)

      I like dem physical buttons

      • Agree with you aac, disagree with Brick. The black Note 8 looks really nice, didn’t care for it at all in white. Just wished the Note 2 came out in black. Hoping though that the Note 3 comes out in the same black that matches this Note 8.

That is probably the same black color that will be used on the Galaxy S4 :)

The HP slate is better value and better looking. I getting a tired and wary of Samsung’s dominance. They are squeezing out all the other Android device makers.

  • Rubbish! Sony Xperia tablet Z is way better!

. have a Galaxy S3. Recently I bought a Note 10.0 and I kept reaching for the physical home button. I realized that I really like and want that button on my device. I returned the Note 10.0 because I didn’t care for the size after having a7“ tab. I’m now waiting for the Note 8 to come out in the U.S. If I didn’t already have an S3 I’d go for the Note 4. It should be a very fine device.

I just don’t understand why they made the bezels so big? The whole idea of a 7-8″ tablet is to get decent screen real estate without un-necessary overall size.

I agree — I wish it were the same size as the N7. I’ll still definitely consider it, though — the stylus would be great to have.

I guess I don’t understand how a product can be announced at a conference without: 1) pricing info and 2) a projected release date. I’m really interested in buying one of these if they price is right… if the price is too high (say over $350) then I’ll by the next Nexus 7 (or will it be a Nexus 8?)
