The Carphone Warehouse

Rumor has it that the Carphone Warehouse, will be working with Google as the single retailer for the forthcoming Nexus 2. For those not in Europe, “The Carphone Warehouse, is Europe’s largest independent mobile phone retailer, with over 1,700 stores across Europe. It is based in the United Kingdom and is a 50% subsidiary of Best Buy. Outside the UK and Ireland, the retailer is named The Phone House.” The original name is based on the fact that once upon a time, mobile phones were called carphones because they were quite litterally chained to the car, before they became mobile.

According to an anonymous source at Android Community,

“It looks like Google is experimenting with the future of its mobile model in the UK. It tried releasing through a single carrier, now it is trying a single retailer. It could be a solution to the problems it experienced when it tried to sell the Nexus One exclusively through its website. People like to be able to go to a store – this solves that”

We’ll just have to wait and see, I guess.
