Marvel Studios has a new superhero movie coming out next week, so of course Gameloft has a new superhero game to celebrate the occasion, this time the movie tie-in is a tactical action game starring Captain America.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier puts players in control of the titular superhero as well as a small squad of S.H.I.E.L.D. members as they try to save the world from various crime organizations. While the movie pits Steve Rogers against the Soviet agent known as The Winter Soldier, the Gameloft game includes myriad other Marvel villains such as Taskmaster and King Cobra.

Throughout the game Captain America and his Strike Team will learn a variety of new techniques to presumably keep the gameplay fresh. When you’re in a tough spot you can also call in Black Widow or Falcon for a bit of help. Unfortunately neither hero is available as part of your team, it seems, probably because they’re off fighting other battles.

Captain America: The Winter Solider also includes an asynchronous multiplayer mode that lets players fight against their friends and compete as clans.

The game is available for free, but that just gets you the first two levels of the game. To unlock the full game you’ll have to pay a $2.99 in-app purchase. There are other in-app purchases in the game, though that shouldn’t really be a surprise to anyone.

Worth noting is the game requires an Internet connection to play according to the description. We’re not sure why, but that could be a deal breaker for those who like to play games on their commute on the subway.

Will you try the new Captain America tie-in game?

F*** constant internet connection, they do it so people don’t hack the currency but still it pushes people who would actually play it away.

Costs $3 here on the iOS app store, with an option to purchase IAP at either $4 or $50 (about there; converting from Sing Dollars is a little flaky as I am not used to all the .99 cents).

So it’s basically the android version without the free trial?
