bittorrent update
Recently, BitTorrent announced that they passed the 50 million user milestone. To celebrate, they have updated their uTorrent and BitTorrent apps. Included are some new integrated services, new features, and even a revamped UI. If you have the apps already, you may have already gotten the update.

The official change log of the app is as follows:

  • Integration of BitTorrent Bundle where you can get some stuff up and coming artists are giving away.
  • An overhaul on the user interface and usability.
  • Added the ability to choose download locations.
  • Added the ability to skip parts of a torrent.
  • A new app base that allows for quicker updates from the developers.

According to their blog post, they will also be putting more emphasis on their publishing project called BitTorrent Bundles. Here’s how these work. Artists who are looking to gain some attention create a bundle that BitTorrent users can download free of charge. This usually includes a song or two and some extra stuff. Moby did one a while back that had a song, a video, and some art work included.

This is actually a really cool idea because it gives artists and publishers a way to promote their material to a pretty substantial audience and if you use the BitTorrent or uTorrent apps, you should check out some of these bundles. You can find faster and easier access to them within the app after you get the update.

The other interesting addition is the new app base. According to BitTorrent, the new app architecture will allow for easier updates in the future. This means that bug fixes will come faster, performance improvements will come faster, and they have announced a new release schedule of about two weeks. This is encouraging because the more updates to fix things, the better.
