Malware has become an increasing problem lately, and while Bitdefender already offers paid solutions to keep your mobile device secure, the developer launched a new app on April 8 called Antivirus Free.

As the name implies, Antivirus Free won’t cost you a dime, and while you won’t get the features of Bitdefender’s premium offerings, users will still be able to take advantage of the developer’s great antivirus protection.

Antivirus Free requires no configuration as well. Once the app is installed, it sits in the background making sure files and apps you install are safe. The app will also monitor the SD card and internal storage of a device ready to alert you of any potential threats.

The best part about Antivirus Free is that is should take little to no battery life and that it uses “in-the-cloud scanning technology”. What this will do is allow the app to stay up-to-date on the latest threats to the Android operating system, and fight malware on your device straight from the cloud.

While antivirus apps are a great way to fight malware, the best way to fight it is by engaging in safe practices, such as keeping a sharp eye on what websites you visit. Having the knowledge of what causes malware is also a great way to fight such threats.

If you’re interested in Bitdefender’s Antivirus Free, be sure to head on over to the Google Play Store.
