Ramos W10 Gaming Tablet Brings Cheap Android Gaming to the Masses

June 12, 2011

When you think about gaming, you don’t usually think about Android. Let’s be honest – Android’s pretty good for mobile phones and tablets but it hasn’t proven itself with games. At least, there hasn’t been a really big killer app that has made Android a requirement to play. Most Android games are usually ported from other platforms – with Android usually receiving the low-end ones.

Still, there are quite a few games that people may want to play. There’s the smash-hit Angry Birds, which is currently a casual gaming sensation. Other lesser-known games like Majesty or Modern Combat bring real-time strategy and first-person shooter genres to the humble Android platform. So, if you really like to play Android games, why not get a dedicated Android gaming tablet? This is where Ramos W10 comes in.

Ramos is a Chinese company better known for its MP3/MP4 players, but they’ve recently been coming out with cheap Android tablets. The Ramos W10 was first revealed last year and it finally seems to be hitting store shelves soon. A 7-inch tablet it has a 800 x 480 touchscreen and Mali-400 GPU which supports OpenGL ES 2.0 – more than enough to handle any Android games graphical needs. Combined with an ARM Cortex A9 CPU and 512MB RAM,it looks to be an impressive platform to play Android games. It has over 8GB of storage that can be expanded to store all of your games and comes with several connectivity options: Wifi and Bluetooth. It also has an HDMI port and a G-sensor. The only downside its that it uses Android 2.2.

Marketed as a budget tablet, expect this product to sell pretty cheap once it arrives later this year. Hopefully, it gets an upgrade to Android 3.1.
