Team Kang has really been on a roll lately. After completely rebasing AOKP on Android 4.2.x it has proceeded to release 6 official builds, each adding supported devices, new features and bug fixes. Now, the team has decided it is time to release Milestone 1 for all the devices that are officially supported. As always, the Milestone builds do not add too many new features from the previous build. Instead, the team focuses on bug fixes to make the user experience as smooth and stable as possible.

Moreover, Team Kang is also leaving behind the old build schedule, where it used to release official builds once every 2 or 3 weeks, after human testing. From this point onwards, it will truly be moving to “nightlies” rather than “builds”. These nightlies will be built by the bot every 4 days, and the resultant builds will be available for download without any human testing in the interim. To round up the changes in the build timeline, Milestone builds will now be released at a minimum of once a month, and less frequently if the team deems the current state of the code not to be worthy of the Milestone tag.

On another note, AOKP has now been officially installed over a million times on devices. To celebrate this achievement, Gergely Szell (@sethyx) has released AOKPush, an easy way to stay up to date on Team Kang news and official builds. There are 4 feeds you can subscribe to: the Milestone, Nightly, Test and Fun feed. While the first three will mostly be about AOKP released, the latter will be about general news updates from the team.

The app is available now, costs $1.31 and is a great way to show the team how much you appreciate its hard work. Also, if you are eager to get your hands on some unicorn goodness but your devices is not officially supported, head over to the XDA Forums – someone over there is bound to be building AOKP unofficially for your phone, especially if it has been released in the past couple of years. To check out the full blog post by the team or the AOKPush app, head over to our source links.

Google Voice received a major update yesterday after more than a year, and it brings interesting tidings.

The changelog was a sparse affair, only citing an “Improved reliability of SMS delivery.” However, a teardown of the Google Voice APK by the folks over at AndroidPolice have revealed some interesting internal code changes and additions to the app. Without going into the actual code, the biggest find was that Voice now allows other apps to pull all its configuration settings.

What does this mean? Well, at least preliminarily, some other app (presumably from Google) is going to use all of settings of Voice for its own purposes. This new app may conceivably even be used to replace Voice completely at some point in the future. In fact, considering the deluge of rumours about “Babel” — or whatever Google decides to name their unified messaging platform — there is a good chance that these changes might have been made for that very service.

Babel has been rumoured to replace and unify almost all of Google’s messaging services. If it can replace Google Talk and the G+ Messaging app, it is quite plausible that they could choose to eliminate Google Voice completely as well, and port its features over to this service. In any case, we do not have too long to wait now; IO is only 1 month away, and rumours have indicated that Babel could come baked into Key Lime Pie. Hopefully, all shall be revealed at I/O 13.

HTC has done darn good job with the HTC One as evidenced by our review, and now it seems the public has also learned about this stellar piece of hardware. After T-Mobile One preorders ran out on the same day the page went live, the SIM-unlocked versions are the next to bite the dust.

As of now on the HTC USA website, both the 32GB SIM-unlocked and the 64GB Developer Edition (sporting an unlocked SIM and bootloader) are currently showing as “out of stock.” Considering all the media attention the One has been getting, coupled with the fact that it is launching a couple of week before the Samsung Galaxy S4, it is not surprising that the sales of the One are proving to be promising — at least if the volume of preorders is to be used as a measure.

If you absolutely need to get your itchy hands on one, the only options that you have are to preorder either the Sprint or the AT&T model. Also, looking at current demand I would recommend ordering it as soon as possible. Who knows how much stock the carriers have left? As always, we will keep you guys updated once the SIM unlocked editions come back in stock or start shipping. To keep an eye on availability yourself, head over to the source link.

Never say never. According to a blog post yesterday by DirtyDroidX, Dan Rosenberg (a.k.a. @djrbliss) has successfully managed to do what many before him have tried to do but failed — and that is unlock the bootloader of a Motorola smartphone. For quite a while now, at least since the Droid RAZR was released, Moto bootloaders have been locked down tight, which has made development more complex for these devices. Just glancing at the XDA threads for the RAZR HD and RAZR M will tell you that much. Workarounds like installing the SafeStrap recovery are required in order to flash ROMs onto those devices.

However, with Dan’s bootloader unlock method this should now be a thing of the past. News of this method first came out yesterday, and now earlier today he has made his unlock tool and instructions public. However, this method will only work on devices with the new Qualcomm Snapdragon processors, and as of now that list includes the Droid RAZR HD, RAZR Maxx HD, RAZR M and the Atrix HD. So unfortunately all devices with the older OMAP processors, such as the original Droid RAZR, will be left out in the cold.

The usual disclaimer applies: you have to be willing to take responsibility for your own actions and device, and if this tool somehow ends up bricking your device, it is in no way the dev’s fault. Also, for this to work you already need your device to be rooted and have the su binaries (superuser, SuperSU or ClockworkMod’s open-source superuser) installed on it. If you feel you are up to the challenge, hit up the first source link below for the full list of instructions and FAQ’s, and the second one for a more detailed explanation of the process. As always, if you have any other questions feel free to ask in the comments section below.

The Asus Transformer Prime (TF201) was one of the best...

The Asus Transformer Prime (TF201) was one of the best Android tablets at the time when it was released, at the end of 2011. It had great specifications, felt really nice in the hand, offered a software experience that had a lot in common with stock Android, and received frequent updates courtesy of Asus (the most recent being the update to Android 4.1.)

However, a lot of people had trouble with the GPS functionality of the Transformer Price – overall reception was poor and it took a while to catch and maintain a signal. Some of the affected users also complained about reception issues with the Wi-Fi module, but that was less widely reported as an issue. Although Asus tried to mitigate the problem by giving out GPS dongles, some of the disgruntled customers went as far as to take the company to court in a class action lawsuit over the GPS problems.

Now, Asus has settled the class action lawsuit by accepting to give out a free GPS dongle and $17 to all those affected by the GPS issues. It also admits that the tablet did suffer from “weak/intermittent Wi-Fi performance” but have not provided any solution to ameliorate the situation. Asus posted a full message on the Asus North America Facebook page, and, as you would expect, only residents of the United States can submit a claim.

To have a look at the full statement head over to the Asus Facebook page, or to directly submit a claim and read more about the class action suit, head over to the Asus Settlement website.

Well, this was quite a find. Just in time for the Season 3 premiere of the acclaimed series Game of Thrones, Google has released a new commercial titled “Retribution”, complete with an aura of vengeance in the air.

Throughout the ad, we see Google going through the Play Store and buying a bunch of medieval, dragon, power and punishment themed content on a Nexus 10. They move through songs, books, games and movies, all while Carmina Burana’s O Fortuna is doing its part to build up the tension in the background. The ad culminates when showing us the cover of the Game of Thrones on the Nexus 7 and other content on the Nexus 4 and a Chromebook. In the end, the Play user is revealed as Daenerys Targaryen, mother of dragons and rightful ruler of the Seven Kingdoms.

It’s great to see Google take advantage of what has now truly become a global phenomenon. I have no doubt this will manage to extract at least couple of chuckles from GoT fans. I have just one quarrel with the ending; I really do not believe that the Khaleesi has time to kill on her Nexus. Doesn’t she have an army to build and a kingdom to win?

If you are tired of seeing the same outdated software on your Verizon Samsung Galaxy Tab, there is an OTA update that is rolling out to most users that upgrades your tablet to, well, newer outdated software.

Android 4.1 is now hitting the Verizon Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 and 7, bringing all the performance improvements you would expect from Project Butter, as well as a healthy serving of Google Now.

While those are the 2 biggest improvements, there are going to be specific features that will only be available on your particular device: click here to check out the entire list of changes for the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 and here for the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0.

As always, if you are one of the people who have not had the update pushed to your tab yet, head into the Settings -> About device -> System updates to manually ping the servers. The update has already been approved and pushed to the non-carrier branded unlocked models, so hopefully there should not be any hidden problems or major bugs. Do let us know how the update is performing in the comments.

Now that the highly entertaining and highly painful presentation (wonder how Samsung managed that) has concluded, we at Android Authority have the complete down-low on the phone Samsung is going to be heavily dependent on to be their moneymaker for the next 12 months – the Samsung Galaxy S4.

Now out of the 40 million+ people who have bought the Samsung Galaxy S3, at least a few of you must have this question of your mind: how many of the cool new features announced today will be available on your phone?

Samsung VP of Product Planning Nick DiCarlo has graciously decided to clear the air for us, and he has said that anything that is not dependent on hardware will be issued as an update to their flagship devices.

For those of you who were hoping to get “Air View” on your Galaxy S3′s, sorry folks, you are out of luck this time. The TV remote app and the S Health app will also probably not make the cut, since they require an IR blaster and a pedometer respectively to function.

While I cannot make any promises, most likely the new camera features should be available as an update since that seems to be primarily software based. Also, chances are that the Note 2, by a virtue of it being a flagship device will also get some of these updates to augment the user experience. As always, we will keep you guys updated as soon as more information is available.

Those of you who have unlocked the bootloaders of your Asus Transformer Pad 300s probably didn’t receive the Android 4.2 update when it started rolling out earlier this month. But now, there is no need to feel left out.

If you felt the need to try out the official OTA update straight from Asus’ servers, the company has now released the full 4.2.1 ROM for the TF300. This comes with all the standard performance improvements and bug fixes you would expect from an update. It also includes all the standard Android 4.2 features like lockscreen widgets, quick settings, multi-ser capabilities and more.

The update comes for three versions of the device, so make sure you choose the right one before flashing. They all weigh in at around 500MB, so you might want to start the download a little in advance if your Internet connection is not the fastest one around. However, if you are still on 4.1 and thinking about upgrading, I would also consider this ROM which you just might have come across.

Chances are you will be very pleased with it, as so many of us have been before. I do believe the overall experience after updating should be silky smooth, as Asus has generally been very reliable in the update department. Head over to the source link to try it yourself, and do let us know how the update is working on your device.

Chrome is everywhere. That’s the message Google is trying to send us, and in all honesty it’s something most of us already are well aware of by now.

A new spot, titled “Now Everywhere” emphasises all the benefits of using Chrome across all your devices and platforms. In fact, I can attest to the validity of this since I myself have been using Chrome on my desktop, tablet and phone for more than 2 years now. It allows you to sync passwords, settings, bookmarks, auto-filled addresses and more in the cloud, making the overall experience of browsing the web that much more cohesive.

Tab syncing across devices is an absolutely killer feature, and one that has saved me innumerable times in times of need. Performance on Android phones, especially ones which are not backed by cutting edge hardware leave something to be desired, but Google knows about this and is actively improving the app with every update.

Apart from that, it is fast, well endowed with features, very secure and there is no other reason I can think to not switch over to this browser ecosystem. And who knows, one day when you save up enough money to get this beauty, the transition will be so much easier for you.
