Sense 2.1 demoed on the HTC hero with multitouch in full swing

The guys over at Pocketnow discovered a YouTube video that offers a preview of HTC Sense 2.1 running on the HTC Hero. Most of the video is fairly mundane but one notable feature is the support for multitouch. A pinch gesture was used in the video to show off a new homescreen preview which allows you to view all your homescreens as thumbnails and switch to any widgetized homescreen with a single tap. The mere mention of Android is not allowed in Apple’s App Store?

According to an article from PC World, mobile developer Tim Novikoff submitted his Flash of Genius application to Apple’s App Store and mentioned his application’s success as a finalist in Google’s Android Developer Challenge within the application’s description. Much to his surprise, the mere mention of this achievement elicited the following response from Apple:

“During our review of your application, we found that your application contains inappropriate or irrelevant platform information in the Application Description and/or Release Notes sections.
“While your application has not been rejected, it would be appropriate to remove ‘Finalist in Google’s Android Developer’s Challenge!’ from the Application Description.
“Please log into iTunes Connect to make appropriate changes to the Application Description now to avoid an interruption in the availability of Flash of Genius: SAT Vocab 2.2 on the iPhone App Store.”

This issue goes beyond the simple wording within an application’s description and reflects the growing tension between Apple and Google as the competition between the two mobile platforms begins to heat up.

Spy photos and video of the Verizon Wireless HTC Incredible emerge

The HTC Incredible is rumored to be coming to Verizon Wireless and thanks to the folks at Pocketnow, we have a close-up look at this Android-powered handset. From the photos and the info provided by the tipster, we can glean that the Incredible will have a Snapdragon processor, 256MB RAM, an optical touchpad, a dual LED flash, and a bright, crisp display of approximately 3.7 inches that appears to be AMOLED. Unlike the Nexus One, the Incredible will include HTC’s Sense UI as an overlay on top of Android 2.1. Hit the jump for some additional photos and hop over to Pocketnow for a short hands-on video.

The Weather Channel gets hip, distributes its Android app via an on-screen QR code

When watching the national weather on the Weather Channel, the last thing most people expect to see is a giant QR code in the corner of the map but there it is, that glorious black and white square. Apparently, the Weather Channel has been pushing its Android app and Android owners can use their favorite barcode scanning app to scan the QR code which overlays the map. A successful scan will take the user to the Android Market where they can, of course, download the Weather Channel app. While us tech folk are standing in front of the TV trying to line up the scanning rectangle, the non-tech folk are sitting around wondering what in tarnation this mottled black and white square is on the screen and who are these mysterious “Android users”.

Motorola Devour fans get to double their pleasure today as on the same day Verizon makes the Motorola Devour official, photos of a leaked prototype make their way to the Internet courtesy of AndroidSpin. The Devour, previously known as the Calgary, gets photographed up close and personal and is even spotted next to the Nexus One in a pose that makes the Devour look rather big and boxy. Google rolls out a Nexus One update with multi-touch on board

Google Nexus One

Google announced today that it will be rolling out an over the air update to all Nexus One owners. The update will finally bring multi-touch to an Android handset in the US with pinch to zoom functionality being added to the browser, gallery, and maps. The update will also address that 3G connectivity issue which has been plaguing the Nexus One and adds Google Goggles to the handset as a default application. Last but not least, Google Maps has been updated to include night-mode maps, search suggestions based upon map history, and synchronization of starred maps between your handset and desktop.

Official WordPress app now available in the Android Market

Bloggers that use WordPress to power their blogs can now easily create posts, manage pages, and administer the comments on their blog while on the go with the official WordPress app from Automattic. The WordPress app made its debut in the App store today and is compatible with WordPress.com and self-hosted WordPress 2.7 or greater blogs. We wrote most of this post with it and, though, it is not as full-featured as the web interface, it works well in a pinch. Interested parties can download it for free through the Android Market with the QR code after the break for those that just love scanning.

Google Nexus One headed to AT&T and Sprint?

Google’s Nexus One handset may be making a full sweep in the US, possibly landing on all four major carriers. The Nexus One is already available on T-Mobile and a Verizon Wireless version is expected to debut this Spring. Two separate rumors suggest that both AT&T and Sprint versions of the Nexus One may be in the works as well. In the first rumor which broke late last week on Engadget, a version of the Nexus One was spotted at the FCC with AT&T friendly bands (850/1900/2100) and an FCC ID that is almost identical to the original Nexus One. The second rumor broke on Monday when Gizmodo received a letter from Sprint customer service that mentions that the Nexus One is “not on offer as of now” and in the the next breath states “When it is launched”. A letter from customer service is not the most reliable source for inside information but we can dream big, can’t we?

Verizon Wireless Motorola Devour retail packaging spotted and photographed

Enthusiasts that admire the packaging as much as the electronics inside have some eye candy to oggle this afternoon as Android Central has published the first photos of the retail packaging for the Motorola Devour, Verizon Wireless’ second Motorola Android handset. Not only does the presence of the packaging suggest that the phone is slated for launch in the very near future, it also serves to confirm the handsome good looks of the phone which we saw earlier this year. T-Mobile MyTouch Slide spotted on its way to T-Mobile

Images and specs leaked to DroidDeveloper begin to unravel the mystery surrounding the rumored MyTouch Slide, a QWERTY-packing side slider headed to T-Mobile. The MyTouch Slide appears to be standard slider with an ARM11 CPU (rumored to be the same 528MHz Qualcomm processor seen in the Magic), a 320 x 480 display, an optical trackpad, a camera of unknown resolution with LED flash, an easily accessible microSD card slot, and a 1,300mAh battery. The MyTouch Slide is expected to debut with T-Mobile on May 17th. Hit the jump for the full size images.
