by: Bams SadewoJuly 26, 2012

Like the headline says, a full three months after the phone was released in the country, HTC has finally made the kernel source for the HTC One X on AT&T available to download.

Now, if you’re a regular user who likes your HTC One X and all its Sense as it is – then it may not be such a big deal. But for folks who frequent forums and websites where modders and tweakers usually lurk about, you’ll definitely see the profound effect the released kernel source has. We’re talking about pants wetting level of excitement here.

As we speak, devs are already cooking up some sauce to update their modded ROMs and whatnot for the HTC One X. With the availability of the [...]

New Nexus 7 tutorial video showcases Google apps

by: Bams SadewoJuly 26, 2012

Google has just released a new video for the Nexus 7. Following the first two from the series, which walk users through setting up the tablet for the first time and personalizing the home screen, the latest video touches lightly on the subject of … Google apps.

From the Chrome browser and its many tabs, to Gmail and the ability to swipe back and forth between messages, the two core Google services are briefly explained. The video also showcases some of Google Map’s features, which include performing a voice search for nearby places and attractions. The video then shows off the 3D wow factor of Google Earth and the ability to watch HD video on the YouTube [...]

Samsung to sell Olympics Flip Cover for Galaxy S3 in its London pop-up stores

by: Bams SadewoJuly 26, 2012

With the opening ceremony of the 2012 Summer Olympics about to officially kick off tomorrow, what better way to engross yourself in the quadrennial occasion than getting a matching Flip Cover for your Samsung Galaxy S3?

We have to say the specially designed back cover looks pretty smashing, as it’s adorned with neat drawings of London’s many landmarks, such as the Big Ben, the red telephone box, the newly constructed The Shard, and others. The special Olympics Flip Cover for the Galaxy S3 is your best bet to score some local memorabilia and celebrate the fine men and women who are competing for glory.

Your other option is to fly all the way to [...]

Google Nexus Q has sold out on the Play Store, will now ship in 2-3 weeks

by: Bams SadewoJuly 26, 2012

Looks like Google has another bonafide hit on their hands. In less than a day from when the Nexus Q was made available on the Google Play Store, the company has exhausted the initial stock of the Nexus Q units. Those who are looking to buy the social streaming media player will now have to put up with a longer shipping date. Initially, customers were promised the orb-shaped device in 3-5 days from orders.

If you go to Google Play now to purchase the Nexus Q, you will see that the device is no longer in stock. The estimated shipment date for the next batch of the Nexus Q is now pegged at 2-3 weeks.

Did Google underestimate its own hardware by only producing a [...]

Forgot your Olympic hotel room key? Use your Samsung Galaxy S3!

by: Bams SadewoJuly 26, 2012

You’ve seen the limited Olympic Games edition of Samsung Galaxy S3 that will be released in Taiwan and the Samsung Galaxy Note that will be sold in the UK. Being the official sponsor of the big game, naturally the milking doesn’t end there. Amidst the packed schedule of going from one arena to the next supporting your country’s team, it’s easy to misplace small items like your hotel keycard. That shouldn’t be a problem if you bring your Galaxy S3 with you.

Working with the Holiday Inn in Stratford Westfield, Samsung makes sure that your Galaxy S3 can be used as a hotel keycard during the Olympics. More than just [...]

September shipment for Pebble smartwatch delayed, new date isn’t set yet

by: Bams SadewoJuly 25, 2012

If you were planning to show off your pre-ordered Pebble smartwatch to friends and family by September, you’d better have a back-up plan. The shipment for Kickstarter’s golden project has been pushed back from its initial September date.

The delay is likely due to overwhelming orders for the E-Ink watch. As explained on Pebble’s Kickstarter page, the team initially only expect to manufacture 1,000 Pebbles before they launched the project on Kickstarter. To go from that number to producing over 85,000 units of the smartwatch is no easy feat to accomplish.

While the team also said that they are “sticking pretty closely to an aggressive timetable,” the new [...]

Dubai-based Axiom offers Google Nexus 7 for $350

by: Bams SadewoJuly 25, 2012

Most folks in the US, Canada, UK, and Australia have gotten their units of Nexus 7 by now. Others, meanwhile, await Google’s announcement on when it’s planning to bring the Jelly Bean tablet to the rest of the world. If you happen to reside in the Middle East, you may want to make that short trip to Dubai to snatch one.

Axiom Telecom has announced that they have Google’s premier tablet in stock. The Nexus 7 is listed on its website for AED 1,299, which translates to about $350. Pricey? Yes. But that’s something that you’ll have to swallow for wanting to be the first on the block to sport the Nexus 7.

We’re not sure if the price above is for the 8GB or the 16GB [...]

T-Mobile’s HTC Era 42 = HTC One X+? Could be a pure Google phone with Tegra 3+ processor?

by: Bams SadewoJuly 25, 2012

Well, so much for seeing HTC making the imaginary T-Mobile G3. To be fair, we did hint (albeit a little) that there’s a possibility that the rumored HTC Era 42 will turn out to be the HTC One X. We just missed the mark by a single “plus”. The latest whispers now indicate that that T-Mobile will be getting a revamped version of the HTC One X in fall, the HTC One X+.

If accurate, what will the “plus” sign on T-Mobile’s variant of the HTC One X signify? Will we be seeing a One X that comes with a microSD card slot AND a removable battery? Or could it be something even bigger, like the use of a more powerful Tegra 3+ processor at a higher clock speed than the [...]

Want to know how much Motorola’s patents are worth? It’s $5.5 billion

by: Bams SadewoJuly 25, 2012

When the news broke about Google’s intention to acquire Motorola Mobility last year, the move was put down mainly as a way for Google to access Moto’s extensive list of patents. However, the industry was left to wonder how much out of the $12.4 billion deal can be attributed to said patents.

Hopes of finding out details of the deal were squashed when the acquisition was finalized on May 2012, but no information was shared with the rest of the world. A recent regulatory filling made by Google now sheds some light on the dollar value of Motorola’s patents.

It turns out that barely half of the money spent to acquire Motorola went to its patents. To be more [...]

Jelly Bean OTA update for WiFi Motorola Xoom now available, soak testers get it early

by: Bams SadewoJuly 25, 2012

Getting jealous seeing those jolly jelly beans on the Nexus 7, Galaxy Nexus, and Nexus S?

The official Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean update for the Motorola Xoom will be rolled out soon, but you can try your luck by downloading and installing the OTA file yourself, which has been uploaded by Google on its website.

Manually flashing the Jelly Bean OTA file on your Motorola Xoom will be quite a challenge though, because the file is meant only for “soak testers” and it may still contain bugs and the likes. Those who tried (and failed) have reported a “space issues” error while trying to install the update.

But if you’re brave enough and up for [...]
